BASEBALL: Cards drop MAC Tournament opener

The Ball State University baseball team lost their first game Wednesday 13-7 to Northern Illinois University in the first round of the MAC double-elimination tournament. Tyler Pritchard suffered the loss, giving up six hits and eight runs in 4.1 innings.

For the students who are out of high school, Beyond I CAN is a great way to develop people skills and become involved in the community. I CAN, which has been in existence for 15 years, is a great system alone. Students with disabilities can work and sell products they made themselves.

Student wants to reform Pakistan's education system

When he arrived at Ball State University in August 2007, Asher John said he thought that no one lived in Muncie except the students on campus; however, he realized he was not in Pakistan anymore. "In Pakistan, at least you would see guards at gates of the buildings," he said jokingly.

May 2008 has proved to be the most expensive month so far. Gas prices are at a record high with $4 per gallon, and consumers are left helpless as they see their hard-earned money being sucked away at the gas pump. This sudden spike in gas prices generates a great deal of questions about the future of gasoline.

Cards to play Huskies in MAC tourney

With an 11-8 season-ending victory against the University of Toledo on Saturday, the Ball State University baseball team gained much needed momentum entering the Mid-American Conference tournament Wednesday. After losing close games to the host Rockets on Friday and Saturday, the Cardinals scored seven runs in the eighth inning to finish the season on a positive note and snapping a six-game losing streak.

OUR VIEW: Thank a veteran

Armed Forces Day has passed, and Memorial Day is coming to begin the festive, patriotic summer. Soon, the Fourth of July will come, and people will be lost in fireworks and buying red, white and blue paper plates for their barbecues. During the weekend, some of Delaware County's approximately 10,000 veterans participated in the Armed Forces Day Parade as a way to thank those who fought for American freedoms.

Two students arrested after fight on campus

Ball State University police arrested two students Thursday evening after a fight in Irving Gym started because one man taunted another, police said. According to the police report, seniors Izes Cross and Titus Austin were arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement.

Saluting those who serve

Armed Forces Day not only brought out crowds of people along Walnut Street, but also the parade was teeming with veterans who acknowledged the sacrifice of the soldiers past and present. Joe Mansfield, commissioner of the Delaware County United Veterans Council, said the third Armed Forces Day Parade was a great way to pay respect and show thanks to veterans.

Business slows with summer

Take a walk through the Village on a Sunday afternoon, and the four-block stretch of restaurants and shops might feel more like a ghost town than a destination for food and fun. Since Ball State University's Spring Semester ended May 2, most students have left campus to return home or pursue summer plans, leaving area businesses to cope with the absence of thousands of potential customers.

Kelly Packard spent most of her 18th wedding anniversary in Worthen Arena on Monday meeting new faces and answering a barrage of questions. If things go Packard and her husband Rich's way, this year's anniversary will not be the last spent together at Ball State University.

Among his numerous great works of literature, one of Robert Frost's more popular pieces was a 20-line sonnet entitled "Road Not Taken." The poem documented a lone traveler who was stuck at a fork in the road. After taking a long moment to contemplate which direction to take, the traveler chose to proceed on the path less traveled.

Transportation work nearing completion

A group of Ball State University students are on track to complete a year of work with the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville.-á Journalism instructor Richard Shoemaker, a rail enthusiast, said he contacted the Ball State Business Fellows on behalf of the County Convention and Visitors Bureau, which wanted a marketing and tourism plan for the museum.

FOOTBALL: Miller named to All-American team

Following his best season in an already stellar career as Ball State University's punter, Chris Miller was named to the Playboy Magazine Preseason All-American team Wednesday for the second consecutive year. Miller, who will be a fifth-year senior this fall, recorded numerous All-American honors during the past two years with the Cardinals.
