Garden fair goes green

The Minnetrista Center is offering a Garden Fair this weekend. The fair's opening is in conjunction with the opening of the Farmers Market, which will be open all summer on Saturdays. The Garden Fair will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 7 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.

Bakery to open second site

There are many ways a family-owned bakery could celebrate its 50-year anniversary, but Concannon's Pastry Shop plans to do so by doubling its operation next year. Mike Concannon, third-generation owner of the downtown staple, spoke on the shop's behalf at Monday's Muncie City Council meeting during which multiple resolutions were passed to approve construction of the shop's second location.

23 miles to be added to Greenway to expand

Running through the middle of Muncie lies a quiet trail in good condition with rest stops and mile markers. On this trail people jog, walk, bike and in some parts even ride horses. This is the Cardinal Greenway that stretches from Marion through Muncie and to Richmond.

Number of international students to increase from 250 to 575 by fall

Ball State University plans to increase the number of international students to five percent by 2012, according to the Center for International Programs. Martin Bennett, director of the Rinker Center for International Programs, said Ball State was more than halfway through its admissions goals.

Summer keeps administrators busy

Because only about one-fourth of the student body remains in Muncie over the summer, a popular notion is that Ball State University administrators have little to do during this time. However, school staff is as busy as ever during the break, some faculty said.

Then she started to go to bed at 10 p.m., which totally cramped my style. And she wakes up at 7 a.m. to blow dry her stupid hair while I try to sleep! And the more I got annoyed, the more I noticed how juvenile she was.

Allergic reactions are avoided

Although some Ball State University students might be allergic to peanuts, Chick-Fil-A in the Atrium cooks some of its products with peanut oil. But Director of Dining Elizabeth Poore said no students have complained about the food because most students with food allergies come to the Dining office and ask about the content of food themselves.

Goodbye gravel

Less than one year since completing renovations to Scheumann Stadium, the focus has shifted to outside the gridiron battlefield. Beginning Monday, contractors will officially start work to resurface the gravel parking lot many students see upon entering campus.

Class works to improve diversity

More than 100 Latino high school students will visit Ball State University next week for an outreach program that aims to help Latino students transition from high school to college. Project Stepping Stone is a week-long college preparatory course hosted by Ball State, Marian College, IUPUI and Ivy Tech-Indianapolis.

Owners of a local bakery are expected to present multiple resolutions to the floor of Monday evening's Muncie City Council meeting. Concannon's Pastry Shop, 620 N. Walnut St., is reportedly attempting to expand upon its current location, as well as add an additional operation.

Recent rise in gasoline prices is changing the way many students

As gas prices sky rocket, some Ball State University students have a hard time keeping up. Leigh Tanner, a senior education major, said gas prices are a major concern for her as she plans her weekends. "I think of how much it will cost if I go somewhere," Tanner said.

Once inside I lean against the door and do my usual look around the car for anything interesting or life-threatening. Teammate causes crash

INDIANAPOLIS -¡- At the halfway point of Sunday's race, Tony Kanaan found himself in a familiar position - leading the Indianapolis 500 plenty of laps before the checkered flag. As Kanaan crossed the yard of bricks on lap 101 in first place, ABC play-by-play announcer Brent Musberger offered the fact that the leader at the halfway point had parked in victory lane only three times in the past 20 years.
