CROSS COUNTRY: Ball State ready to run the hills

With one race under its belt, the Ball State University cross country team will now face the hills of southern Indiana in the Indiana Intercollegiate in Bloomington today. The Cardinals are ready to show the rest of the state what they have been training for, coach Randy Heisler said.

MEN'S TENNIS: Cards ready to begin

While it won't play the bulk of its schedule until January, the Ball State University men's tennis team will play in its first tournament this weekend in Milwaukee. Despite rumors that Mo's Tavern has changed locations or gone out of business, it will reopen upon completion of repairs to a broken water main in the building. Zita Kramer, the property manager for Mo's, said it ran into a multitude of problems that contributed to its closure more than a week ago.

Student petition fails

Bill Bruns said he knew he was going to vote down an early voting site at Ball State University before the Delaware County Election Board meeting began Wednesday. When he announced his deciding vote, a standing-room only crowd knew it was coming. "For this election [nothing could have changed my mind about the site]," Bruns said after the meeting.

Charles Kleemann, a Ball State University sophomore, was riding north on McKinley and Ben Steinbrunner, a Ball State junior, was crossing the sidewalk when the two ran into each other.

FIELD HOCKEY: Some things don't change: Buckeyes brutalize Cards

After seemingly hitting bottom Sunday, the Ball State University field hockey team continued its downhill slide Wednesday afternoon. Ball State lost 5-0 to No. 18 Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The loss is Ball State's fifth in a row and leaves them with a 1-6 record with one game left before the Mid-American Conference season starts.

Ball State University senior men's golfer Andrew Rhodes has been named Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week on Tuesday. Rhodes was Ball State's best player last weekend, finishing sixth-place individually at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate. Currently, Rhodes leads Ball State with a 74.

Controversy has been raised regarding Ball State University's slogan declaring itself a "smoke-free campus." Ball State began producing and distributing pamphlets and signs announcing its smoke free status following the smoking ban that was implemented during Spring Semester.
