SOCCER: Cardinals celebrate 2007 MAC championship

This weekend was a homecoming of sorts for the Ball State University soccer team. After a 3-0 win Sunday against Kent State University, last year's team was awarded its Mid-American Conference championship rings by Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins and President Jo Ann Gora.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Coach focuses on positives after rough weekend

The match scores from the Queen City Collegiate Invitational in Cincinnati this weekend were nothing to boast about, but Ball State University women's tennis coach Kathy Bull found some positive points. "We didn't have a great weekend overall," Bull said.

The Ball State University field hockey team knew its weekend slate would be difficult when it was visited by Mid-American Conference favorites Ohio and Kent State universities. The visitors showed why they are now perched atop the conference in a three-way tie with Miami University, as each shut out the Cardinals on successive days.

With a little help from Northern Illinois University and Central Michigan University, the Ball State University women's volleyball team is tied for first in the Mid-American Conference Western Division after defeating the University at Buffalo 3-1 (25-21, 26-28, 25-23, 25-20) Saturday.

WOMEN'S GOLF: BSU dominates field at Iowa

When Kirsty O'Connor left the United Kingdom to attend Ball State University in 2006 she said she did not think the Cardinals women's golf team would be able to beat against schools from the Big Ten. After this weekend though, the junior has eliminated that notion.

'President's Own' comes to Emens

Until 1891, the U.S. Marine Band had played exclusively in Washington, D.C., for events of national importance, presidential events, holidays and White House activities. The band began touring across the country that year under the leadership of its 17th director, John Philip Sousa, and since then (except during the Great Depression and World War II), the band has performed in a fall concert tour (starting in October and ending the first days of November).

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards win third straight MAC match

The Ball State University women's volleyball team made it three in a row in conference play by defeating the University at Buffalo 25-21, 26-28, 25-23, 25-20. Freshman setter Brittany McGinnis said the win against the Bulls was a good test for her team after the long weekend, which began with Thursday night's 3-0 win at the University of Toledo.

Now that a new season of Humans vs. Zombies has begun Monday, here are some tips for players to survive until the game ends Sunday: -Try not to travel in large groups. The ideal group size is between five and seven people. If players travel in large packs, it slows the group down, and members have a better chance of becoming zombies.

FOOTBALL: Ball State improves to 6-0 for first time since 1965

Ball State used its first shutout since the 2000 season and four second-half touchdowns to improve to 6-0 for the first time since 1965. The No.-29 ranked Cardinals spoiled Toledo's homecoming with a 31-0 victory Saturday night. It was their first shutout since a 29-0 victory against Connecticut in the 2000 season finale.

Football: Cards ranked No. 25 in new AP Poll

Less than 24 hours after getting its first shutout win in eight years, the Ball State University football team now has another reason to be happy. The Cardinals received 97 votes and are ranked No. 25 in the newest Associated Press Poll released Sunday afternoon.

Ball State University students and Muncie community members will have the opportunity to meet author Bill Barich on Monday when he visits the campus as part of a cross-country tour. Barich will lead an informal discussion about his writing career on Monday afternoon, followed by a reading and book signing.

Unique showmanship drives genre-jumping performance

People began packing into John R. Emens Auditorium on a cool, autumn evening. Excitement lurked in the air. "Are you guys ready for Umphrey's?" a concertgoer said as he took his seat in the auditorium. Hundreds of people cheered in agreement. Umphrey's McGee, a rock band that originated in South Bend 10 years ago, played its first Muncie show Friday, and fans were pumped.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cards ready for season's first road tournament

Ball State University women's tennis coach Kathy Bull had the task of preparing her team to get ready for the first match of the year last week. She has a tougher duty this weekend. The team is competing in its first away match on five-days rest. The Cardinals travel to the Queen City Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati.
