'Three's Company' star speaks to artists

Joyce DeWitt told a crowd of more than 250 people there has never been a more important time for artists than now. DeWitt, one of the stars of the sitcom "Three's Company" and a Ball State University alumna, took the stage of the University Theatre Monday night to take part in a question and answer forum with the audience.

We've had a spectacular, contentious political season. A little more than half the nation is rejoicing, and a tad less than half is feeling rather dejected. MEN'S BASKETBALL: Freshman dominates

Coach Billy Taylor knows his Ball State University men's basketball team will be tested throughout the season. The question is how his young players will respond. The second-year coach was pleased with what he saw on Saturday. After a 13-point halftime lead disappeared five minutes into the second half, the Cardinals made enough plays in the stretch run to earn a 67-55 win against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

It seemed like such a great Fruesday present. The athletics department was going to give all of us who made it to tonight's football game a free ticket to the bowl game, presuming we made it to one. As we blearily checked our e-mail accounts Monday morning we saw the e-mail promising us a piece of paper that could have brought so much joy.

FOOTBALL: Ball State retracts bowl ticket offer

After announcing a ticket voucher for the Ball State University football team's expected bowl game Monday morning, the athletics department retracted the offer Monday afternoon. Associate Athletics Director Matt Wolfert said the e-mail announcing a free bowl ticket voucher for any student who attends Tuesday's game against Western Michigan University was inadvertently sent.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards look to improve road performance

The Ball State University men's basketball team travels to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tonight for its first official road trip of the 2008-09 season. After Ball State's first road game of the season against Butler University on Wednesday - a 64-55 loss that included 16 Ball State turnovers and 22 personal fouls - coach Billy Taylor said he hopes his team will be better-adjusted to the away game setting.

Six-year-old Kyle Bedwell found himself in a room with hundreds of strangers. The people's yelling pounded on his ears, and he quickly felt himself overcome with the jostling crowd. FOOTBALL: Lewis, McGarvey win player of the week

Not only did the Ball State University football team catch enough eyes to move up two spots in the newest BCS rankings, two Cardinals also caught the eyes of the Mid-American Conference this week. Running back MiQuale Lewis and kicker Ian McGarvey were selected as players of the week by the Mid-American Conference Monday for their performance against Central Michigan University.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: McDonald receives conference award

Ball State University women's basketball player Audrey McDonald was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week Monday. McDonald led the Cardinals to their first win of the season Friday against Robert Morris University by scoring 25 points and shooting 7-11 from behind the three-point line.

Number 10Ball State's athletics department will not retract tonight's game. Number 9The Cardinals' student section will be enthusiastic but won't throw things at Western Michigan receiver Jamarko Simmons. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals capitalize

After having a 17-point lead earlier in the second half, the Ball State University women's basketball team found itself down 60-59 to Cleveland State University in the game's final minute. Then with eight seconds left in the game, forward Emily Maggert scored with a game-winning layup, making the score 61-60 after she rebounded a missed 3-pointers by guard Porchia Green.

FOOTBALL: Cards back in top 15 of BCS standings

Despite receiving more votes in this week's Associated Press Poll, the Ball State University football team was unable to maintain its No. 14 ranking. The Cardinals dropped one spot to No. 15 in the AP Poll released Sunday afternoon. Ball State (11-0, 7-0 Mid-American Conference) received 731 votes - 17 more votes than last week - following its 31-24 road win against Central Michigan University on Wednesday.
