Brittany McGinnis, Ball State University's best women's volleyball setter couldn't be found in her normal position this weekend. In an unexpected turn of events right out of the gate, two injuries to defensive players and ball handlers forced the women's volleyball team to try something radical.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards fall to Lousville in Active Ankle championship

The championship match of the Active Ankle Challenge pitted the Cardinals against each other. On one side was Big East power Louisville (4-2) and the other, the Ball State University women's volleyball squad (2-4). Louisville took the Active Ankle Challenge championship in four sets 25-16, 25-13, 23-25, 25-16.

Ball State Bold raises 88 percent of $200 million campaign goal

One year after Ball State University launched its "Ball State Bold: Investing in the Future" campaign to raise $200 million by 2011, the university announced Friday it obtained 88 percent of its goal. Ball State Bold is a fundraising campaign the university started to subsidize campus improvements, such as renovations to the Ball State Museum of Art, building the Glick Center for Glass and the creation of new immersive-learning opportunities and scholarships, according to its Web site.

WEST LAFAYETTE - Purdue University is using a new computer system that shows students traffic-like red, yellow and green lights that can predict whether their efforts in class are enough to earn good grades. Purdue officials say the Signals program can determine whether students are on the path to success.

Online voting begins for 2009 Homecoming king, queen

Online voting for Ball State University's 2009 Homecoming royalty starts today and ends Sept. 15. Students can log on to www.bsu.edu/votebsu using their Ball State usernames and passwords to cast their votes. Senior Jada Buchanan, Homecoming Steering Committee awards and judges chairwoman, said all Ball State students can check out who the student and faculty/staff Homecoming candidates are on the Alumni Association's Web site.
