The Fall Career Fair is today in Worthen Arena from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Career Center and helps students make connections with potential employers. More than 100 businesses will be presented at the Career Fair. Joe Goodwin, the assistant director of the Career Center, has provided students with some tips for the interview process.
For most people, paintings, photographs and sculptures are synonymous with artwork, but Suzanne Lomax of the National Gallery of Art will introduce art from a different angle. Lomax will present "Chemistry as Art," a talk focusing on the application of different techniques used to preserve and restore artwork, the examination of different mediums and the composition of art pieces.

Earl L. Conn, a retired Ball State University journalism professor and founding dean of the College of Communication, Information, and Media, died Sunday at Ball Memorial Hospital. He was 82. Marilyn Weaver, Ball State Department of Journalism chairwoman, said she will remember Conn's love for the university's journalism program and CCIM.
Ball State University student Thorne Martin was released from Ball Memorial Hospital at 5 p.m. Tuesday, a week after accidentally shooting himself while cleaning his firearm. Martin, who had his pinky finger amputated as a result of the accident, said he is planning on attending classes Wednesday.

The Hiatt Farm pumpkin patch and corn maze, dubbed "Mazed and Cornfused", officially opened Saturday to customers looking to fill their fix of fall fun. For more than three years owner Keith Hiatt and his family have been selling pumpkins on the side of Highway 67 near their Muncie home.

Too much depth is rarely a bad thing. Coming into this season, women's volleyball coach Dave Boos felt he had plenty of depth in every position, until he lost his two liberos in the first match of the season. Despite these losses, his team is not short on the depth chart on the front line.
Ball State University was shut out in their home opener against Ohio State University 5-0. The Cardinals offense was kept under control once again as they were outshot by the Buckeyes 24-5. Ball State took only one shot in the first half. Senior Tiffany Shifflett recorded double digit saves for the second consecutive game with 10 total saves.
Senior Kyle Holster said he is always looking for more ways to save money. A new Goodwill store that opens today at 5035 W. Hessler Road in Muncie is giving students such as Holster something to look forward to. "It looks larger than the store they had before and will offer a better environment for shoppers," he said.
Ball State University students will have a chance to showcase their talents, which range from singing and dancing to juggling, at this year's Talent Search. The 20 finalists selected from more than 50 entries met Monday night at the Alumni Center with the Homecoming Steering Committee to discuss procedures leading up to the show next week.
Autumn has arrived and with leaves falling from the 8,000 trees on campus, maintenance and landscaping crews have their work cut out for them. Out of mowing grass, plowing snow and raking leaves, leaf pickup is the least time consuming, but still an important part of campus maintenance, Mike Planton, director of environmental management, said.
At the 2009 Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, the one surprise competitor turned out to be a woman. Mother Nature attempted to insert herself into the men's golf tournament with the first significant rainfall in Muncie since Aug. 28. However, golfers from 15 teams still completed the 36 holes that were scheduled at the par-70 Delaware Country Club.
Junior music technology major Trevor Junga said he isn't surprised Ball State University's School of Music was ranked among the top 10 percent of music schools in the nation for a second consecutive year by In Tune Monthly magazine. "I definitely think they deserved their mention," Junga said.
After beginning the season with seven road matches, the Ball State University field hockey team is ready for their home opener against Ohio State University today at 3 p.m. This marks the third Big Ten opponent in ten days for the Cardinals. Despite a five game losing streak, Cardinals' coach Annette Payne said she knows her team remains in high spirits.
At first glance it wasn't pretty, but the game film provided a different perspective for coach Stan Parrish on the play of his quarterbacks. Kelly Page and Tanner Justice combined for four interceptions that lead to 17 points for Army in Ball State University's 24-17 loss last Saturday.
