Arkansas Governor urges changes to religious objection bill

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Wednesday called for changes to a religious objection measure facing a backlash from businesses and gay rights groups, saying it wasn't intended to sanction discrimination based on sexual orientation. The Republican governor said he wants changes to the bill lawmakers sent him prohibiting state and local government from infringing upon someone's religious beliefs without a compelling interest.

Student-run company to perform 1st full-length play

Ball State’s Busted Space Theatre Company will be producing its first full-length show, “Mr. Burns: a post-electric play.” The play delves into the ways that “the human race tells stories and how we keep out humanity in a crisis” by following a group of survivors after a nuclear melt-down, said senior theatre management major Bob Prescott. Prescott is the director for the show and managing director of Busted Space.

Art event to feature Muncie, Ball State creatives

Get the artistic blood flowing from 5-8 p.m. April 2, at Downtown Muncie’s First Thursday. Local artists and art students exhibit their work and present meet-and-greet type sessions and purchasing opportunities on the first Thursday of each month in Downtown Muncie, or DWNTWN.


The 30-minute long event included messages from Ball State President Paul W. Ferguson, Pastor Andre Mitchell, Associate Dean Lori Byers, student Darian Bailey and a poem by Shay Stewart. OUR VIEW: Ball State must take clear stance on RFRA to ensure it is inclusive

While Indiana debates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, Ball State has been dealing with its own issues of diversity and tolerance. After a student who formerly owned a Confederate flag won the John R. Emens Outstanding Senior Award, some students felt they were not being fairly represented on campus. They called for a university-wide diversity workshop; this alone demonstrates the depth of the concern about diversity on campus.

Students express concerns of campus diversity discussion during Beneficence Dialogue

A Ball State student leader finally had the chance to talk about the university’s silencing of multicultural organizations. David Jones, current president of the Ball State Black Student Association, said at the Beneficence Dialogue March 31 that the executive board had its funding threatened for discussing the recent John R. Emens Award controversy with both the media and its members.

Director of Student Life resigns

Jennifer Jones-Hall, director of Student Life and adviser to the Student Government Association, has resigned from her position Monday evening, the university said. Joan Todd, interim associate vice president for University Marketing and Communications said Jones resigned "to pursue other opportunities." She has been with the university since 2011. Jones-Hall was recently mentioned in a letter to Ball State President Paul Ferguson from Student Government Association Chief of Staff Chris Taylor and the Student Government Association President Nick Wilkey. The letter expressed concern about the selection of the John R.
