Ball State swept in road match against UCLA

The Ball State men’s volleyball team dropped its match against the No. 4 UCLA Bruins 3-0 at Pauley Pavilion on March 7. UCLA ran a two-setter offense, a system that many college offenses do not run anymore. “We haven’t seen that in a long time, in men’s volleyball period,” head coach Joel Walton said.

Men's golf preparing for spring break

The Men's golf team is in for a busy Spring Break, playing in two three day tournaments just a few days apart from each other.  The Cardinals are bringing seven golfers, freshmen Timothy Wiseman and Tyler Pearson, sophomores Johnny Watts, Michael VanDeventer and Michael Makris, senior James Blackwell, and redshirt sophomore Keegan McKinney.  The first event will be the Colleton River Collegiate, which is hosted by Michigan State and is being held at the Pete Dye Course at the Colleton River Plantation. Pete Dye is the architect for the course and is well known for his difficult and unforgiving course designs.

Oral History: The biggest win in Ball State women's basketball history

A David vs. Goliath matchup; a new coach marching her team into a “sea of orange” to match up with one of women’s college basketball’s most storied programs. It looked even more one-sided than games that are scripted in the movies, the first round of the NCAA Tournament featuring one team that had never been there before against a team that had never lost in the first round of the big dance and was coming off back-to-back national championships.

Cardinals erase 12-point deficit with help from Fontaine, Bennett

Ball State women's basketball managed to erase a 12-point deficit to come back and win 76-68 against visiting Mid-American Conference West Division rival Northern Illinois. While senior guard Nathalie Fontaine took the spotlight with her 40 minutes of play and record-breaking performance, junior center Renee Bennett led the charge to bring the Cardinals back for the victory. Fontaine's last second layup was set up by Bennett, who stepped up to pull away from the Huskies with just a few minutes remaining in the game.

Gymnast Denasiha Christian named MAC Specialist of the Week

Senior Denasiha Christian earned the Mid-American Conference's Specialist of the Week award. Sunday against Bowling Green, which was also senior day for Ball State, Christian won the vault with a score of 9.950 and finished third in the floor exercise with a score of 9.850. Head coach Joanna Saleem told ballstatesports.com she was excited that Christian won the award in her last home meet of her collegiate career. "[Christian] worked really hard last week on all her events, and to see her successful on senior day when emotions run high is really encouraging," she said. The Cardinals next meet will be Friday, March 4 in Corvallis, Oregon, in a tri-meet against host Oregon State and Seattle Pacific University.

Fontaine 23 points away from record, family travels from Sweden for Senior Night

A wide grin spread across senior guard Nathalie Fontaine’s face as she walked off the court after Ball State won on the road at Eastern Michigan, 67-63, last Saturday. The smile wasn’t because of the first-round bye the Cardinals secured with the victory, nor did it result from posting her 16th double-double of the season. Instead, it was the small, bushy head of hair that blocked the words “Ball State” on her jersey that sparked the smile as she carried her nephew toward the locker room. Fontaine, one of Ball State’s 19 international athletes, hails from Stockholm, Sweden, but her mother, sister and nephew made the trip to Muncie to be at her final career home game. “They follow all of the games online, so they’ve seen me play my whole college career,” she said.
