Carmichael Circle gets some green

Instead of sitting on hard concrete benches outside Carmichael Hall, next fall students can curl up on wooden benches surrounded by flowers to study and talk with friends. Personalized bricks will go from the building doors to Carmichael Circle, which is in front of the hall.

Muncie resident Ruth Matson died at 8:19 p.m. Monday after a car accident at Jackson Street and Tillotson Avenue. Matson turned in front of Joseph Allart III, a Ball State University senior, causing him to swerve into a fire hydrant at 4:37 p.m., Muncie Police Sgt.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Rollin thrives at Ball State

One year ago, Micah Rollin averaged 3.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while playing fewer than 10 minutes per game at the College of Southern Idaho. It was his sophomore year, and his second in organized basketball. One year later, after only participating in 31 organized basketball games, he is starting for a Division I basketball team.

Students injured in crash

Three Ball State University students sat in a silent car before sunrise, waiting in traffic to turn onto I-69 from state Route 28 when a tractor-trailer slammed into them from behind. "We were just sitting there and there was nothing that we could do [because] we were just waiting in a line of cars," Kelley Wise said.

As Ball State University's men's basketball team looks to win three straight games for the first time in nearly two years, the Cardinals will play one of the best teams historically in the Mid-American Conference. As early as Fall 2007, students could be reading constantly updated news scrolling across a screen while eating lunch at the Atrium. The system will be available earlier than expected because Provost Terry King approved funding last week for a graduate assistant position to run it.

As more students begin to ride the Blue Loop shuttle, they need to be aware of the new rules for this east-of-campus bus route. Even though the route remains the same as the Muncie Indiana Transit System trolley ran last year , the Blue Loop is being operated by Ball State University this semester.

Students are always a factor in university decisions because one student is chosen biannually to sit on the Ball State Board of Trustees. Obviously, this is one of the most important positions a student could hold, and the choices the elected student makes will affect Ball State students more than any other elected or appointed student's decisions.

A Ball State University professor will be appearing on the WISH-TV program "Eye on Kids" at 8 p.m. tonight. Carol Friesen, associate professor of family and consumer sciences, will participate in a three-person discussion panel about child obesity at the Indianapolis Children's Museum.

Daniels' education plan spurs debate

As soon as the next academic year, some Indiana high school graduates could receive a state-sponsored scholarship of $5,000 a year to attend Ball State University. However, there is a catch. These students would have to remain in Indiana to work for three years after they graduate from college.
