Presidential slates and senate candidates will be announced at the Nominational Convention Monday at 7 p.m.

Students can try out for singing contest

Although Midwestern contestants did not do well on "American Idol," the Indiana University Helene G. Simon Hillel Center hopes to give the state's students a chance to do better. Campus Super Star is an annual singing competition based on the TV show "American Idol" and is for any college student enrolled in a state university, IU's Hillel Assistant Director Andy Gitelson said.

MEN'S TENNIS: Senior expects easy victories

After four consecutive losses, the Ball State University men's tennis team should dominate its two matches this weekend, senior Joe Epkey said. Saturday the Cardinals (1-4) will play host to Valparaiso University (0-2) at 11 a.m. and the University of Indianapolis (0-1) at 4 p.

Wireless service experiment concludes in one week

Ball State University students have only a week to take advantage of faster speeds and better signals for wireless Internet before the university concludes a six-month research study. Ball State is the first place in the United States to test WiMAX, a more powerful form of wireless Internet access, O'Neal Smitherman, vice president of information technology, said.

Last week a summary of the global warming trend was released in Paris - preceded by criticism. The initial criticism came from top United States climate scientists who rejected the forecasts in favor of more dismal predictions. The summary of the report was written on obsolete data and did not take into account recent ice sheet melt off in Greenland and Antarctica.

The Democrats in Washington wasted no time raising the federal minimum wage. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said that it was one of her top priorities when the 110th US Congress convened and it was. If signed into law, the minimum wage would increase to $5.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Falcons win battle for top spot in MAC

Throughout the season, Ball State University has won games on its offensive depth and defensive intensity. However, the Cardinals (17-4, 8-2 Mid-American Conference) found themselves on the wrong side of both statistics in an 86-76 loss Wednesday at No. 17 Bowling Green State University (21-2, 10-0 MAC).

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Doubles dominate court

After losing all of its doubles matches in the previous two contests, the Ball State University women's tennis team swept IPFW in doubles play Wednesday. Ball State (2-2) defeated IPFW (3-5) 6-1 to end its two match losing streak. Coach Kathy Bull said the Cardinals doubles teams are coming together to give the team a boost.

After a 6-1 victory against IPFW Wednesday, coach Kathy Bull hopes her team's play can carry into its two matches this weekend against the University of Cincinnati and Michigan State University. It won't be easy. Cincinnati (3-2) is much improved from last year, when the Cardinals (2-2) defeated the Bearcats 6-1.

This means Ball State University and Muncie police departments will be pulling people over for speeding and seat belt violations. FOOTBALL RECRUITMENT: Twenty-four players sign letter of intent

Ohio proved to be a fertile recruiting ground for Ball State University in its 2007 recruiting class, with nine of its 24 recruits coming from the Buckeye State. Those recruits provide a bulk of the talent, ranked fourth in the Mid-American Conference (79th overall) by Rivals.

Ball State University needs student opinion on moving the Multicultural Center into the L.A. Pittenger Student Center. The Campus Action Team will discuss issues involved with the move at an open forum from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday in the Student Center Forum Room.

Police enforce road safety

Motorists better think twice before pushing the pedal to the metal or not snapping in a seat belt during the next two weeks. The Ball State University and Muncie police departments are participating in Operation Pull Over, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration road safety campaign, Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said.

It fell too thick for snow plows to keep up, so many roads remained covered until it stopped. Police reported accidents all over the city, and two people died when two semitrailers hit head-on 10 miles north of Muncie on I-69. While most students bundled up in hats, coats and gloves, some still went to class in shorts and T-shirts despite temperatures that peaked at 12 degrees Fahrenheit but dipped as low as -2 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the NWS.
