As graduation closes in, one word comes to mind: bittersweet. It means "producing or expressing a mixture of pain and pleasure," according to the American Heritage Dictionary, and it is the only word that comes close to accurately describing the feelings I have about moving on to the next phase of my life.

BASEBALL: Teams to fight for second place

Let the jockeying begin. When Ball State University and Western Michigan University meet for a three-game series, the two Mid-American Conference schools will be fighting to move up in the West Division standings. With identical conference records (8-7), the Cardinals (22-18 overall) and Broncos (20-15 overall) will be jockeying for position to maintain pace with the rest of the division, in which all six schools are separated by three games.

Skits highlight gay issues of '90s

As Melissa sat at her desk in a 1990s workplace, she wasn't surprised to hear she was one of 10 pregnant women in the office that year. But she was surprised to hear one thing from her guardian angel dressed in white - her baby would be born gay. "One in every 10 children born in America are gay, and I just want to tell you you're the 10th," said junior Zac Davis, who acted as Melissa's queer guardian angel during a skit Thursday night, organized by Ball State University's gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender straight alliance.

When University Senate decided to implement schedule changes to eliminate Saturday finals, it was supposedly for the benefit of students, faculty, staff and the university as a whole. Given that intent, the senate wanted to enact the policy as soon as possible, but senators were informed that schedule changes could not be made for the 2006-07 school year because the schedule was already set.

SOFTBALL: Cards play for spot in tournament

For the Ball State University softball team, hopes of reaching the Mid-American Conference tournament may be decided by the end of this weekend. With eight games remaining in the MAC season and one game behind Northern Illinois University (18-21, 6-8 MAC) for the final postseason spot, the Cardinals (12-23, 5-9) will be traveling north to play in a doubleheader against Central Michigan University (16-22, 7-5).

MEN'S GOLF: Another lineup change in store for Cardinals at First Energy tourney

Despite some less-than-stellar play in recent weeks, the men's golf team has high expectations for the First Energy Intercollegiate this weekend. "I want to go win the tournament," coach Mike Fleck said. Ball State University fell five spots to a ninth place finish in the final round at the Kepler Invitational two weeks ago, and finished tied for 10th out of 12 teams at the Fossum/Taylor Made Invitational this past weekend.

If Iran does not comply today with a resolution to halt the enrichment of its uranium production, it could face economic sanctions from the United States, Britain and France. As a result, 15 Ball State University student ambassadors to the Model United Nations Security Council met Thursday to discuss the action that would be taken on Iran.

Miscommunication by Butler University's defense allowed Ball State University to take control in the bottom of the third inning. Three Bulldog defenders allowed a fly ball hit by second baseman Kyle Dygert to drop in shallow right center field, allowing first baseman Brad Miller to tie the game, 3-3.
