One unmarked campus bus has a node to offer Internet access in a new place. Ball State University is currently testing wireless access on one of its shuttle buses. Most students, however, aren't aware of the experiment. Some who are aware might be inclined to call it pointless.

Permit prices increase

The cost of parking continues to rise at Ball State University - over the past four years, the price of a housing and stadium lot permit has risen from $40 in the 2003-2004 school year to $70 for the 2006-2007 school year. The increase can be attributed to a five-year price plan, instituted by the Finance Office, Gene Burton, director of public safety said.

Captivating the whole family

The Ball State University Museum of Art is taking steps to attract a larger, more diverse group of visitors. The most notable of these steps is the printing of a full-color, interactive Museum of Art Family Guide. "We've been trying to make a concerted effort to reach beyond the campus," Tania Said Schuler, Ball State Museum of Art Curator of Education, said.

Students taking risks with alcohol were given a little slack their first few days back. Police have made it clear that this weekend won't be the same. Indiana State Police, along with Delaware County and Muncie enforcement, will be patrolling the roads on the lookout for drunk drivers from 9 p.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards open season with high hopes

Even though nine of the 15 players on the women's volleyball team have never played a match in college, the team has high hopes, intensity and talent. The Ball State University women's team is tabbed to finish first in the West Division of the Mid-American Conference and opens against the Xavier Musketeers Friday night.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals struggle to find rhythm

The first night of the Nike/Active Ankle weekend turned out to be a disappointment for the Cardinals who were shut-out at Worthen Arena, 3-0 (30-23, 31-29, 30-21) by the Xavier Musketeers. The four-team tournament hosted by Ball State University started out rough for the 0-1 Cardinals who beat Xavier last season, but couldn't find a rhythm Friday night.

Cards open season on road with high expectations

After a summer of practice and 90 minutes of preseason action against IUPUI, the Ball State University women's soccer team is ready and excited to play, coach Michelle Salmon said. "It's nice to be able to get out there and play someone else," Salmon said.

Officer leaves campus to work with Indiana State Police

Former Ball State University professor William Kramer sat in the corner of the University Police Department, bouncing his granddaughter on his knee, waiting to thank and bid farewell to the one of the men who saved his life. Police officers Eric Perkins and Jeff Riggins administered CPR to Kramer July 13 when Kramer suffered a massive coronary after climbing into bed.

SOCCER: Ball State rolls to 5-1 win

The Ball State University women's soccer team started its season off on the right foot Friday night, beating IPFW 5-1 on the road. The victory gives the Cardinals an unblemished 1-0 record to begin the year. The Cardinals got out of the gate fast, scoring 2 goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead at intermission.

Late Nite caters to students of all ages

In an attempt to boost attendance at Late Nite, coordinators are changing the focus for the weekly event to upper and underclassmen. After a weekend of attracting freshmen to the safety program, Late Nite plans to refocus toward the entire student body. Senior Jessica Inman, the Late Nite student director, said the group would try to bring more activities to Late Nite that juniors and seniors would be interested in.

Students help with McKinley Project

Phase Two of the McKinley Project, which runs from the Bethel Avenue entrance of campus to the Neely-Petty intersection, continued a plan to add more landscaping to Ball State University's campus. Unlike the first phase, which was all contracted out, Jim Lowe, director of engineering and operations, decided to use some in-house help for the project.

WCRD to change music format

WCRD, formerly a College Music Journal station, will be expanding its music library to include not only local talent but top 40 hits. "College Radio on Demand" debuts Aug. 30. "We'll be playing the stuff we grew up with," senior Brett Estes, program director, said.

Ball State University's Counseling and Health Services and Office of Victim Services normally receive e-mails with problems from students. Typically, though, those problems aren't the university's fault. Officials at the services have received mailboxes full of e-mails and complaints regarding an Aug.

THE DORK REPORT: Media coverage should focus on important issues

I visited Yahoo.com and came across the following Associated Press headline: "JonBenet suspect heads to U.S. in style." The article described the lovely meal of champagne, pate and prawns - topped off with a piece of fine Valrhona chocolate cake - that John Mark Karr, suspected of murdering JonBenet Ramsey, ate off a starched, white tablecloth as he sat in business class on his flight from Bangkok to Los Angeles.
