WOMEN'S GOLF: Cardinals enter final day 11th out of 15 teams at Indiana Invitational

The Ball State University women's golf team found itself in 11th place in a 15-team field after the first two rounds of play at the Indiana Invitational in Columbus. The Cardinals are at 75-over par, 25 strokes behind the leader UNLV, who shot a tournament team best of 309 in the second of two rounds played on Monday.

Student arrested on suspicion of stealing police bike

A Ball State University student's joke ended with him on the ground wearing handcuffs. Gavin Howell, 24, was arrested Sunday and preliminarily charged with theft, a Class D felony, after he took a police bike for a joy ride, Gene Burton, Ball State director of public safety, said.

Ex-student arrested on felony

A former Ball State University student remained in Delaware County Jail on Monday after an attempted armed robbery at a near-campus gas station, according to police reports. Muncie police arrested Chadwic Spencer Nash, 20, and preliminarily charged him with armed robbery - a Class B felony - Sunday, according to the Muncie Police Department's probable cause affidavit for Nash's arrest.

BASEBALL: Ball State looks to end skid in nonconference vs. Purdue

Losers of their last four nonconference games, the Ball State University baseball team will try and ride the momentum from Sunday's doubleheader sweep at the University at Buffalo to break the skid against Purdue University on Tuesday. The Cardinals (14-12) travel to West Lafayette to take on their second Big Ten opponent of the season.

Perci Garner stood on the mound in the Field Sports Building, nerves racking his body. He rocked back and fired the horsehide, lighting up the radar gun. After just the first pitch, his first off a mound in 1 1/2 years, one observer was blown away by the raw talent.

Delaware County coroner Jim Clevenger said the University Police Department and he have no reason to suspect foul play in the death of freshman Garrison Ringenberg. "We're confident no one else was involved," he said. "No one broke into his room and harmed him.

SOFTBALL: Field conditions put hold on game against Mastodons

Today's scheduled Ball State University softball game at IPFW was canceled Monday because of expected poor field conditions. Coach Craig Nicholson said Sunday's rain made the softball fields at IPFW and Ball State unusable. The Cardinals (16-16, 6-1 Mid-American Conferenece) will use today to work on their hitting before trying to return outside Wednesday, he said.

Learning to manage money was the central theme Jean Chatzky stressed to students during her speech at John R. Emens Auditorium on Monday night. "If people understood mortgages and credit scoring, if we were responsible for our own finances, we would not be in the situation we are today," Chatzky said.

Natalie Russo uses her left hand to push the joystick on her power wheelchair. As her chair makes contact with the oversized, 13-inch soccer ball during a team scrimmage, her wheels light up red, yellow and green. This scrimmage fills Irving Gymnasium with the sounds of seven battery-powered wheelchairs hustling up and down the court, trying to keep up with the various speeds their drivers desire, and the sound of rubber tires screeching against the floor.

One moment at Clancy's Village Bowl on Saturday stands out in junior Jessica Sallee's mind. In the lane next to hers, a young boy was struggling to hit a pin. "It's hard, you know, being that young, so we went and tried to help him," she said. "Then he did, and he was smiling and smiling, he was so happy.

BASEBALL: First-place Cardinals sweep Bulls in rain

After a weekend in Buffalo, N.Y., the Ball State University baseball team boarded the bus home with two victories and a trip to Niagara Falls under its belt. The Cardinals (14-12, 5-2) swept Sunday's doubleheader against the University at Buffalo (10-17, 1-7) with victories of 15-9 and 3-2.
