New course offers first hand experience with fire

A burning dorm room, billowing smoke and a gallons of water usually means trouble, but for a group of 30 Ball State students a mock arson offered a chance to put their class work to practice.John Pichtel, a professor of natural resources and environmental management, and the students of his new arson investigation class set two fake dorm rooms on fire at Heath Farm Monday to practice investigating a fire.

3DS Update Introduces System Themes

Tired of the same old white background on your 3DS? Well, with the new update for the Nintendo 3DS that was just released, you can change it. The update now allows themes that can change the Home menu of your 3DS. The theme doesn’t only change the color of your 3DS’s home screen; it also will change the sounds. Five free, simple themes come with the update with the colors being: Red, Blue, Yellow, Pink, and Black. There are more themes in the eShop that are purchasable for $.99 to $1.99. These themes include Animal Crossing, Zelda, Mario and more. The update also brought along the ability to capture screenshots of their Home screen and improvements to the overall stability of the system have been made.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Amiibo Release Dates Announced

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be released in North America on November 21 and in Europe on December 5 with a $59.99 price tag. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will be released on December 5 in North America and in January for Europe for $34.99. The announcement was made by Nintendo this morning.With Smash Bros., Nintendo intends to release its first set of amiibo figures on November 21 in North America and on November 28 in Europe with a second set expected to hit stores in December. Each figurine will cost $12.99.The amiibo characters upon launch will include Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus Aran, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby, and Marth. The second wave will add Zelda, Diddy Kong, Luigi, Little Mac, Pit, and Captain Falcon.Amiibo was announced at this year’s E3 event. To activate the figures, players must tap one of the purchasable characters on the Wii U GamePad controller. The figures will function differently for each game. The amiibo compatible games include Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Mario Party 10, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and Yoshi’s Woolly World.A GameCube adapter will also be released for the Wii U on November 21. By itself, the adapter will cost $19.99. A special Smash Bros. themed GameCube controller will be available on the same day for $29.99. Assassin's Creed Unity Will Run at 900p and 30 fps

by Courtney Tuchman Assassin’s Creed: Unity will run at 900p and 30 frames per second on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, according to Videogamer.Vincent Pontbriand, the senior producer of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, claimed in an interview with Videogamer, “We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff.”The developers of the game were “quickly bottlenecked” by the CPU power, said Pontbriand.On the graphic’s power. Prontbriand remarked, “We could be running at [100 frames per second] if it was just graphics, but because of AI, we're still limited to 30 frames per second.”Ubisoft released Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag on the launch day of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The open-world game ran at 30 fps in 900p. A patch was released for the PlayStation 4 version a few days later, increasing the resolution to 1080p with improved graphics.Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be released on November 11, 2014 and will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.-------Source: PolygonImage: Polygon
