Coming out with a 67-59 win, there was some tough sledding that came with the loss of junior Madelyn Bischoff, who was sidelined against the Hilltoppers. Sallee said Bischoff has been day-to-day, but did not want to risk anything playing her today and is more focused on the big picture.
Here are Delaware County sports results from the week of 12/4-12/9.
In Ball State’s 83-71 win over SIU Edwardsville (6-5), the Cardinals moved to 7-0 at home this season. Ball State (8-2) travels to Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Saturday, Dec. 16, for its next contest against Indiana State (9-1) as part of the Indy Classic.
It’s extremely tough to contain offenses like Notre Dame in UConn as they are both AP Top 25 teams. Ball State let up 90 to both of those teams. In all of their other games, they were holding opponents to just under 64 points per game. Head coach Brady Sallee has said throughout this season that defense can be his teams’ calling card. In the second quarter, it was just that.
Junior Basheer Jihad recorded his fourth double-double in the Cardinals' 83-71 win over SIUE.
From walk-ons to transfers to season-ending injuries, these four former Ball State football players all had different paths during their tenures. None of them will return to the Cardinals next season.
“To come to the field house is on everyone's bucket list,” Muncie Central head coach Justin Ullom said. “To be able to watch a full day of competitive games I think we can really promote Delaware County basketball with this type of event.”
In the long jump, there were four Ball State athletes in the top five. Senior Jenelle Rogers was first with a jump of 5.83 meters (m). Freshman Emma Upp placed second with a 5.36m jump. Freshman Kendra Keesling and sophomore Lindley Steele placed fourth and fifth, respectively, with a 5.27m jump.
With Ball State University’s fall semester coming to a close and winter commencement on Dec. 16, a new batch of students will be entering the job market looking for a place.
Senior Jackson Wors led the Eagles with 23 points as the Eagles defeated the Tigers 54-52.
With Fall Commencement comes a great deal of ceremony: cap and gown, “Pomp and Circumstance” and the speeches of proud faculty and peers. It’s a thoroughly fancy affair – a dignified send-off to four long years of hard work and memories. While it marks the end of the class of 2023’s college years, it’s only the beginning of a life of formalities.
Jack Correa presented with points on improving the hours for dining halls and the recreational facilities on campus as well as working to improve campus safety. Correa was approved on a vote of 29-0 with one abstention. Viktoriia Budiad had points dealing with diversity and inclusion, aiming to improve the general cultural knowledge of the Ball State University population. Budiad was approved on a vote of 29-0 and two abstentions.
In their seventh win of the season, Cardinals junior Basheer Jihad recorded his third double-double of the season in his hometown.
“It was the main reason we scheduled it,” head coach Brady Sallee said. “When Hana came here, UConn reached out to Beth Goetz who had worked at UConn. They got together and were like ‘It would be awesome if we could get the Mühl sisters together.’ Beth came to me and I said absolutely.”
Ball State looked to Bischoff to carry the offensive load in the first quarter. She had 12 points, making four of her five attempts from 3-point land and scored over half of the Cardinals’ points in the first quarter.
Delta senior D'Amare Hood was voted as the Ball State Daily News Delaware County Athlete of the Week for the week of 11/22-11/29.
Best known for his appearances in hit TV shows "Impractical Jokers" and "The Misery Index," comedian Joe Gatto will make an appearance at Emens Auditorium March 2, 2024, afer extending his current 'Night of Comedy' tour, Ball State Marketing and Communications announced via email Dec. 5.
