Muncie City Council passes resolution opposing RFRA

The amendment to Muncie’s human rights statutes in the city ordinance that passed at the monthly City Council meeting on the night of April 6 will go into effect April 7, something Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler said is “unprecedented.”

Competitive nature keeps Craft motivated

From her earliest memories, Jessica Craft remembers competing in sports with her twin brother, Jacob. The rivalry with her brother developed an intense competitive nature in Jessica that was tested after suffering her second injury in less than a year at Ball State in 2012.

Cardinals' losing streak reaches 5

The Ball State men's volleyball team dropped its fifth straight match Saturday, falling to IPFW in a three-set sweep. Senior Shane Witmer and junior Marcin Niemczewski returned to the court for Ball State, combining for 15 of the Cardinals' 27 kills on the match. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 12-14 on the season - 5-9 in conference - and have dropped from the national rankings.  After its victory against Princeton on March 18, Ball State sat in fifth place in the MIVA with a 12-9 record.  Since, the Cardinals have been swept four times and have only managed to win two of 17 sets.

Bike shop shares 150th birthday with Muncie

Monte Hitchcock visited what’s now called Kirk’s Bike Shop for the first time as a 9-year-old. Kirk’s has been around since 1865, the same year Muncie was founded. It’s changed names, locations and owners, but Muncie residents like Hitchcock have always been able to enjoy it.

Walking into the Ball State University bookstore, nothing seems out of place. Popular reads on the right, a slew of red and black gear on the left and office supplies in the back. Recently, however, the university added a new addition: Star Wars apparel.

'The Talk Show' teaches about consent, effects of sexual assault

The Sexual Threats and Oppression Prevention (STOP) team is sponsoring a week of events for sexual assault awareness. During one of the events, called "The Talk Show," students will be able to better learn the components of consensual sex, as well as what counts as sexual assault and the effects of it.

So when Trey Moses, the Eagles’ senior basketball star, asked Ellie Meredith, a freshman with down syndrome, to prom, it may have surprised some. But the two “best friends” spend time together every day.
