MAC: Kent State coach suspended for week

A Kent State University softball team assistant coach was suspended for a week on Wednesday. Coach Radara McHugh received a one-week suspension with pay because of violations to the university's athletic department's code of expected behavior, according to a Kent State press release.

State Farm, New York Life and Liberty Mutual were just a few of the national firms represented at the third-annual Insurance, Actuarial Science and Financial Services Job Fair. More than 180 Ball State University students showed for the fair, Professor of Insurance Steve Avila said.

AIR JAM: Homecoming King, Queen to be announced

Air Jam, Ball State University's annual lip-syncing and dancing contest, will be 9 p.m. Thursday in John R. Emens Auditorium for $7 at the door. Publicity Chair Kimberly Jackson said residence halls, greek life and independent groups are the three categories of contestants who are in the contest.

Muncie Board discusses city noise ordinance

The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety met Wednesday to discuss possible changes to the city's noise ordinance. Board president Elizabeth DeVoe said the board made no official decisions during the meeting, but it is considering whether to create tighter restrictions on noise ordinance exemptions.

Alumni give money for house

Fraternity row will look a little different after Ball State University's Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity has its groundbreaking for a $3 million house during Saturday's Homecoming. Sigma Phi Epsilon President Kevin Miller said the current house has been on campus since the 1960s so the alumni were trying to raise money to build a new house.

WNOU-FM Indianapolis, "RadioNow 93.1," owner jingled listeners bells Monday. Break out the N'Sync holiday album; it's time for "93 [painful] days of Christmas Music." With that stunting format switch, RadioNow become radio then. When Jan. 7 arrives, the station, which played hip-hop and pop will switch to all-news, according to an IndyStar.

Western Kentucky vs. Ball State Both of Ball State's non-conference games this season have been decided by three points or fewer. Western Kentucky enters the game averaging 212 yards per game rushing. Ball State is second worst in the MAC at stopping the run with an average of 216.

Ball State University Women's Basketball Head Coach Tracy Roller was raised on a scissor lift on Thursday morning at 7 a.m. at the intersection of McGalliard Road and Bethel Avenue to promote the team, in hopes of selling a school-record 1,000 season tickets.

FIELD HOCKEY: Forward earns MAC player of the week honor

Ball State University sophomore forward, Brooke MacGillivary was named the Mid-American Conference field hockey offensive player of the week Tuesday. It was the second time this season that she earned the honor. MacGillivary led the Cardinals to a victory against Missouri State University Saturday with her first hat trick of her collegiate career.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Sophomore leads Cards for first time

It took four tournaments, but Ball State University women's golf coach Katherine Mowat finally got the performance she was expecting from sophomore Paige Esford. Esford shot a team-low 10-over-par 226 at the Shoot-Out at the Legends invitational as she tied for seventh overall in the two-day tournament.

Air Jam emcees roll out the red

Emens Auditorium is expected to reach maximum capacity as Air Jam gets underway at 9 p.m. Traditionally, 20 acts representing a gamut of student organizations on campus draw crowds of upwards of 3,500 students. Between the acts, however, students can also look to be entertained.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Roller to climb to new heights

Coach Tracy Roller said she plans on taking the Ball State University women's basketball team to new heights this season, literally. Starting Thursday, Roller will spend every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. sitting on top of a billboard at the intersection of McGalliard Road and Bethel Avenue until 1,000 season tickets are sold for the upcoming women's basketball season.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Coach loses suit against university

Both Ball State University and Tim Buckley said Tuesday they are ready to move on in the wake of an arbitrator's ruling against the former men's basketball coach. Arbitrator Floyd Weatherspoon stated the university did not violate the terms of Buckley's contract when it reassigned him in March 2006 to a fundraising position.

Talent takes BSU

Sophomore dance major Michael Humphrey was awarded $1,000 in scholarship money for winning the overall dance categories for his dance, which he choreographed to "Dare You to Move" by Switchfoot. Humphrey, who was the only entrant in the dance category, said he was surprised when the judges announced his name because he didn't think they would acknowledge his category.
