While 20 percent of tested Ball State University athletes tested positive for banned substances in a drug test, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins said he does not think it reflects on the athletics department. The Oct. 5 drug test found five of the 25 athletes who were tested had positive results for banned substances.

President Jo Ann Gora's contract was extended three years beyond the original expiration date, according to Ball State University officials. Kevin Burke, director of university communications, said the Board of Trustees voted unanimously to extend Gora's contract, which originally set to expire in August 2009, until June 30, 2012.

MITS will be adding a new route to the Late Loop. Starting Oct. 25, the North Late Loop will be added to the loop that already takes students from campus to downtown Muncie, Jeff Phipps, owner of Bygone's Bar and Grill, said. The new loop runs opposite of the original loop and will concentrate on McGalliard Road, Phipps said.

Gamma Phi Omega sorority is hosting events all week long to encourage a membership increase, President Sarra Trevino-Norris said. She said the first and only Latina-oriented sorority has hosted this week-long string of events since their establishment on campus in 1994.
While working on a class paper, Carolyn Vallier said, she was interrupted by the one of the fire alarms that have occurred frequently in Noyer Complex this semester. Jim Clevenger, battalion chief for the Muncie Fire Department, said since April 16 Noyer has had 22 calls and more than 15 calls were results of fire alarms.
Ball State University sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday by the league office. Shifflett made 13 saves in the Cardinals' two games last weekend, pushing her 2007 save total to 140 - fifth-highest in school history.
