During the past three years, Ball State University shortstop Dean Anna and closer Kyle Heyne have shared the same baseball diamond. The two might be leaving the Cardinals' baseball program, but they'll still find themselves in the same ballpark playing in the San Diego Padres' farm system.

Yes, the Democratic primary has now fizzled to an expected conclusion. Where in the heck did Senator Obama come from? Who, outside of the great state of Illinois, had even heard of him three years ago? What is it about this man that causes people to shed tears of joy for being able to see him? Weather does not stop fair

Despite the rainy weather, the Minnetrista Center's annual, two-day Garden Fair attracted a crowd. "It is going very well," Lauren Devine, who was at a Jarden booth, said. The fair's opening was in conjunction with the opening of the Farmers Market, which will be open all summer on Saturdays.

GOLF: Future senior golfer sees practice pay off in tournament

Experience has played an essential role in golfer Brian Maurer's prior success, yet it had little to do with his playoff victory Monday at the Indiana PGA Northern Open. Competing under amateur status, the Ball State University senior sunk a 10-foot-par putt on the first playoff hole to ensure his sudden-death victory against professionals Chad Hutshell, 36, Quinn Griffing, 50, and Cary Hungate, 51.

Give some toys, take a ride

People who love to ride their motorcycles will have a chance to do so for hospitalized children this weekend. And all they have to do is give a toy to ride. Rita Cooper, pediatric unit recreation activity leader, said the second toy ride for Ball Memorial Hospital Pediatric Unit will be at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, sponsored by Faith Riders.

TRACK AND FIELD: Card jumps to championships

When fifth-year senior Amanda Barnhart competed in the 2008 Midwest Regional Chamionships last weekend, she wanted to end her career with the greatest performance of her life. While achieving her personal best with a jump of 20-9 3/4, the Ball State University long jumper was also able to prolong her collegiate career.

Casino brings in large crowd with new addition

ANDERSON - More than 600 people attended the much anticipated grand opening Monday for the new casino at Anderson's Hoosier Park. An outdoor ceremony featuring track and city officials started at 8:30 a.m., and the doors opened to the crowd at 9 a.m. The crowd began assembling outside the casino entrance shortly after 6 a.

BASEBALL: Vitek garners respect

Ball State starting pitcher Kolbrin Vitek was named to Collegiate Baseball's Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team, the program announced Tuesday. College Baseball selected 99 players to the team. which honored the top freshmen in the country. Vitek was one of three players selected from the Mid-American Conference, and he was one of three players named to the team as a "multiple-position athlete.

The Minnetrista Center is offering a Garden Fair this weekend. The fair's opening is in conjunction with the opening of the Farmers Market, which will be open all summer on Saturdays. The Garden Fair will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 7 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.

Bakery to open second site

There are many ways a family-owned bakery could celebrate its 50-year anniversary, but Concannon's Pastry Shop plans to do so by doubling its operation next year. Mike Concannon, third-generation owner of the downtown staple, spoke on the shop's behalf at Monday's Muncie City Council meeting during which multiple resolutions were passed to approve construction of the shop's second location.

23 miles to be added to Greenway to expand

Running through the middle of Muncie lies a quiet trail in good condition with rest stops and mile markers. On this trail people jog, walk, bike and in some parts even ride horses. This is the Cardinal Greenway that stretches from Marion through Muncie and to Richmond.

Number of international students to increase from 250 to 575 by fall

Ball State University plans to increase the number of international students to five percent by 2012, according to the Center for International Programs. Martin Bennett, director of the Rinker Center for International Programs, said Ball State was more than halfway through its admissions goals.

Summer keeps administrators busy

Because only about one-fourth of the student body remains in Muncie over the summer, a popular notion is that Ball State University administrators have little to do during this time. However, school staff is as busy as ever during the break, some faculty said.

Dear Gigolo Joe: I officially decided my roommate is a child. I was assigned to live with her randomly and at first everything was fine. Then she started to go to bed at 10 p.m., which totally cramped my style. And she wakes up at 7 a.m. to blow dry her stupid hair while I try to sleep! And the more I got annoyed, the more I noticed how juvenile she was.
