Fans don body paint to support Cards

Chase Jones believes nobody wearing body paint is expected to be sane. In high school, Jones was not allowed to paint. When he came to Ball State, he immediately wanted to try it. "I thought it was a good way to show school spirit," he said. He painted his entire face and body and spelled out "Go.

Better bring your best singing voices to Saturday's Homecoming parade. This year you won't hear the clamorous sounds of Ball State University's marching band drowning out the off-key chorus from the sidewalks during the fight song. Anyone who has seen "The Music Man" knows it's just not a parade without the brassy sounds of trombones and cornets, but this year we'll have to make an exception.

FOOTBALL: Who has the edge?

Ball State Offense It would be naive to think the loss of receiver Dante Love won't diminish the explosiveness of Ball State's offense. The senior was not only the Cardinals' best playmaker, he was also one of the elite offensive players in the country. Ball State still has other weapons, including the three-headed attack of quarterback Nate Davis, tight end Darius Hill and running back MiQuale Lewis.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: BSU falls to CMU in MAC opener

The Ball State University women's volleyball team was unable to take advantage of an early lead and lost in its Mid-American Conference opening match to Central Michigan University (24-26, 26-24, 25-19, 25-21) Friday. With the loss, the Cardinals (4-11, 0-1 MAC) move to 0-5 this season in Worthen Arena.

Campus shows spirit with decorations

A red tablecloth set with plastic food and utensils decorated the table sitting inside Park Hall. The four chairs surrounding the table have pictures of hall council members taped to a T-shirt on the back of the chair. The grill, filled with toy hot dogs at the end of the table, has a sign taped to it that reads "Tailgating Park Style.

Marching band sits out for Saturday's annual parade

Students celebrating the finale of Ball State University's Homecoming Week will have to march to the beat of their own drums this year as the marching band will be absent from Saturday's parade. This comes as a disappointment to students such as senior elementary education major Mallory Collins.

Dance troupe takes top honors in Homecoming's lip-synching event

Once their group's name was announced as overall winner, Outlet dancers ran onto the stage, jumping and dancing in triumph. After an evening of intense performances and tough competition, Outlet was able to come out of Air Jam on top. With a combination of fast-paced technique and unquestionable style, Outlet was able to solidify its place in the lip-synching performance history books.

When Amanda Killebrew decided to join the Ball State University marching band, her decisions were based on previous experience with her high school band and her curiosity of what Ball State's band had to offer her. Killebrew liked what she was a part of and has continued with it.

FOOTBALL: Injured player walks, goes to rehab center

Ball State University senior receiver Dante Love was released from Methodist Hospital today after spending six days to recover from a cervical spine fracture, coach Brady Hoke said Thursday night. Hoke said Love will be sent immediately to a rehabilitation center in Indianapolis to begin his physical therapy.

FOOTBALL: BSU, NCAA to pay Love's medical expenses

Ball State University and the NCAA will join to pay Dante Love's medical bills with two insurance policies, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins said Friday afternoon. Ball State will pay the first $75,000 under the insurance policy it has for student athletes, Collins said.

Mobile quarterback vs. Ball State run defense A week after facing one of the best running quarterbacks in the country, Ball State's defense will line up against perhaps the best scrambling quarterback in the Mid-American Conference. Through four games, Kent State quarterback Julian Edelman is sixth in the conference with 304 rushing yards.

Vince Gill croons with acoustic act

Just in time for Homecoming weekend, Vince Gill will be gracing Emens Auditorium this Saturday at 8 p.m. with an array of country music. Gill started his musical career during high school, where his bluegrass band, Mountain Smoke, cultivated a large following and eventually opened a concert for popular country band, Pure Prairie League.

Sparking interest in spirit

Swallows, Quick Salutes, Happy Springs, Colors of the World, Golden Waterfall, Peonies, Chrysanthemums, Coconuts, Willow. At about 6 p.m., Ron Evans and his crew begin setting them all up. Out of a long white van, he and his four employees started unloading about 29 boxes of fireworks - or "cakes," as they called them - and about 96 two-inch shells, a loot totaling $2,000.

Study shows professors need sleep

A study by two Ball State University faculty members show that students may not be the only sleep-deprived people in the classroom. Ball State health professors Denise Amschler and James McKenzie conducted the study of 109 Delaware County educators in an unnamed school district.

The Ball State University swimming and diving teams will get their first chance to compete today as the Cardinals play host to their annual Red & White Meet.
