I read Wednesday in the paper about the Ball State University "Truth Movement" and its attempt to persuade Dr. Kent Bullis, director of the Amelia T. Wood Health Center, that a link exists between the preservative thimerosal and autism and Alzheimer's disease.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards lose 59-41 on road to Miami

OXFORD, Ohio - The Ball State University men's basketball team was outscored 40-10 in the paint and lost 59-41 to Miami University in tonight's Mid-American Conference action at Millett Hall. Leading the way for the Cardinals (10-9, 5-2 Mid-American Conference) is senior guard Brandon Lampley with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Gossip Web site to shut down

The juice has been squeezed. Juicycampus.com, a gossip site targeted toward college students, will shut down effective Feb. 5, according to a press release sent by Matt Ivester, the site's CEO and founder. Decreased advertising revenue and funding are the two large contributors to the site's closing, according to the press release.

Commuting teachers making it to class despite snow

Prepare to be disappointed if you were hoping today's snow fall would force your teacher to stay home instead of showing up for your Tuesday night class. Hazardous road conditions have made driving difficult today on I-69. They haven't prevented teachers from commuting to their classes.

Doritos ad lands alum $1 million

While Steelers fans cheered Sunday after their team's Super Bowl win, Franklin Hines was cheering for a different reason. Hines, a Ball State University alumnus, was the production assistant for the commercial that won the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl Contest 2009 and its $1 million prize.

Bill to widen campus cops' jurisdiction jurisdiction

University police officers will have the authority to enforce the law outside of campus if a pending bill passes through the Indiana House of Representatives. If House Bill 1023 passes through the House Ways and Means Committee, police departments on campuses across the state will be given the same jurisdiction as state and local police agencies.

50 years and counting

The past 50 years have made countless changes to Ball State University's campus, faculty and students - and Tom Ray has seen them all. The professor of continuing education said he has been teaching at Ball State for 50 of his 81 years and has been associated with the university for 63 of its 90-year existence.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: BSU tries to get back to .500 vs. IUPUI

The last time the IUPUI women's tennis team visited Muncie, it put forth one of its better performances of the season. The Jaguars' doubles tandem of Vanessa Carna and Emily Holsapple captured a flight C doubles championship in the Ball State Invitational last fall in Muncie.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Freshman Jones earns career first conference award

For the first time in his career, Ball State University men's basketball freshman center Jarrod Jones was announced Monday as the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week. Jones joins Northern Illinois University guard Mike DiNunno as the only freshmen to win the award this season.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards can't fly with Falcons

The Ball State University women's basketball team lost to Bowling Green State University 76-67 Tuesday in Bowling Green, Ohio. Despite shooting 45.9 percent from the field, Ball State had 21 turnovers in the loss - 10 more turnovers than Bowling Green (19-2, 8-0 Mid-American Conference).

While some might think the newspaper industry is on a down-hill slope, Monday's Professionals-in-Residence gave hope to students in the College of Communication Information and Media about the future of news media. Gretchen Letterman spoke to a packed David Letterman Communications and Media Building about the future of the news industry and reminded students about the impact digital media is having on every-day life.

Wishbone Gifts opens new location, expects to attract untapped market

Students can enjoy trips to Wishbone Gifts, Inc. without venturing more than a few blocks off campus. The 420 Underground, an 18 and older extension of Wishbone, officially opened at 420 N. Martin St. on Monday after a "beta opening" Thursday and Friday. Employee Kassie Ferguson said the last three days went well and saw good business.

The Ball State University women's basketball team travels to Anderson Arena to take on a red-hot Bowling Green State University team at 7 p.m. Ball State (14-7, 6-1 Mid-American Conference) is coming off a win against conference-foe Miami University on Saturday but will now have to face the team with the best record in the MAC.

Even though the road conditions on I-69 have been hazardous throughout the day, classes have yet to be significantly influenced Tuesday. More than 120 cars were involved in accidents on I-69 southbound between mile markers five and 34, Pendleton State Police Lt.

MAKING CENTS: Economy will right itself with no intervention

Last week the House of Representatives voted to pass the $819 billion stimulus package. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, this package would cost more than the entire Iraq War. The plan includes many different spending agendas - some of them making you wonder what they actually have to do with economic stimulus.
