Snow and ice didn't keep crowds from celebrating the eighth annual Muncie Gras like it was New Orleans. Heated tents and downtown bars offered revelers a little warmth as they ducked between belly dancing and drag shows.

MEN'S TENNIS: Singles play dooms Ball State vs. Michigan State

After winning the doubles point the Ball State University men's tennis team looked set to pull off the upset victory against Michigan State University on Saturday. It did not happen though, as the Spartans took five of the six singles matches for a 5-2 victory.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards ready for final stretch of MAC games

Ball State University women's basketball team heads back in to division play as the Cardinals travel north to take on Central Michigan University at 2 p.m. Sunday. Ball State (17-8, 9-2 MAC) has five games remaining in the regular season schedule, all against teams in the Mid-American West Division, who they have played once this year.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards survive second-half scare to win BracketBusters

The Ball State University men's basketball team was able to overcome a 3-for-20 second-half shooting performance from the field today to defeat visiting Tennessee Tech University 59-55 for the Cardinals' first-ever win in the ESPNU BracketBusters event. After leading 32-19 going into halftime, Ball State (12-13) didn't hit a field goal in the second half until a 3-pointer from freshman guard Randy Davis came with 12:03 remaining in the second half.

Officials say dance marathon to feature more activities

Ball State University students will be asked to stand on their feet for 12 hours Saturday to help raise money for Riley Hospital for Children. The 10th annual Ball State Dance Marathon, an event that attracted nearly 100 dancers and raised $14,000 last year, will be from 1 p.

TRACK AND FIELD: Williams hits NCAA qualifying time in BSU loss

Two members of the Ball State University track and field team had NCAA provisional qualifying times at the Ball State Quadrangular on Friday. Fifth-year senior Amber Williams and junior Katie Johnson reached the mark in the 60-meter hurdles as both finished in first and second place.

INDIANAPOLIS - University at Buffalo quarterback Drew Willy said he thinks he stacks up with Ball State University quarterback Nate Davis well at the 2009 NFL Scouting Combine. "I think I'm right up there with Nate," Willy said. " I think we do a lot of similar things, and we do a lot of different things.

BASEBALL: Clutch extra-inning hitting leads to Cards first win

For the second consecutive game the Ball State went into extra innings against Furman. This time the Cardinals were able to pull out a 9-7 victory in 11 innings. Senior second baseman Nate Fields led off the 11th inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

INDIANAPOLIS - NFL teams are taking note of the history of Mid-American Conference quarterbacks at the 2009 NFL Scouting Combine. University at Buffalo quarterback Drew Willy said he has talked to people from the NFL about the conference's history of producing NFL quarterbacks.

BASEBALL: Extra inning error leads to season opening loss

The Ball State University baseball team lost its season opener 4-3 to Furman University in 10 innings Friday. Furman senior Connor Lind reached on second baseman Nate Fields' error to start the bottom of the 10th and advanced to third before sophomore left fielder Reese Wade singled him home.

Mardi Gras comes to Muncie

Sword swallowers, belly dancers, mechanical bull rides, karaoke, great food and a go-go cage. Scenes normally native to New Orleans will be found on Walnut Street Saturday as the city celebrates the eighth annual Muncie Gras in downtown Muncie. The event features more than 15 bands at four different locations and a French Quarter tent sporting male reviews, drag shows and dancers.

Of three slates, only two approved so far

Three slates attended the second Student Government Association Nomination Convention on Thursday, but only two were approved to run for election. Elections Chair Marco Pretell-Vazquez said Cardinal Impact, the lone slate that attended the first convention, and Cardinal Collaboration are eligible to campaign immediately.
