MEN'S BASKETBALL: Back to the MAC

As practices become shorter, days off become more common and the Ball State University men's basketball team attempts to contend with the wear and tear most athletic teams struggle through toward the end of the season. However the Cardinals could be four games away from a prize that will make all the extra trips to the training room and repetitive practice routines worth it all: a Mid-American Conference West Division Championship.

Facebook's changes missed by students

Facebook went back on its claim to ownership of any user posted material Feb. 18 and many Ball State University students didn't notice. Yoichi Arakawa, physical education major, said he was not aware of the recent changes in terms. Upon learning about it Arakawa reacted with disdain like many of the site's users.

Kinghorn announces retirement

Tom Kinghorn, vice president of business affairs, will retire July 1 and assume a part-time, three-year role addressing Ball State University's commercialization and development, according to Monday's President's Perspective. Kinghorn said he has been working at Ball State for 43 years and, at 67 years old, he's had a lot of time to consider what he wants to do with the rest of his life.

Letterman Lecture Series reflects on emerging media's role in past election

Kathleen Hall Jamieson, professor of communications and director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, will discuss "Emerging Media and the path to the Oval Office" at 7:30 p.m. today. Jamieson said the advent of the Internet and emerging media has changed not only how candidates for public office campaign, but also the very nature of politics itself.

As freshmen in high school, most people dreamed of the day they would be seniors, until graduation day when it all came to an end. The same can be said for the seniors of the Ball State University women's swimming and diving team, who will compete collegiality for the last time this weekend at the Mid-American Conference Championship.

The Health Center gives away more condoms throughout February and around Valentine's Day than any other time of year. Planned Parenthood and the Health Center, which offers students five free condoms per day, try to make condom events fun for college-aged students in an attempt to educate them about safe sex.

The Office of Orientation is accepting applications for Welcome Week Leaders for Ball State University's 2009-10 school year. According to a press release, Welcome Week Leaders will help freshmen move into residence halls and become familiar with campus services and activities and promote and assist at the week's events.

BASEBALL: Freshman named MAC Player of the Week

Freshman first baseman Ian Nielsen is the only non-senior to be named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week. Nielsen went 10-17 in the Cardinals opening series against Furman University.

Record Time IV challenges musicians

Musicians from Ball State University and all over the world will be working tirelessly to write and record an album's worth of material this week. Midnight on Monday marked the beginning of Record Time IV, a project started three years ago by senior Ball State music technology majors Dan Waldkirch and Mike Weber.
