As middle attacker J.D. Gasparovic thought about tonight's match during practice this week, he could not help but get excited. Having a love to play in intense situations, the all-conference player said this is the perfect setting for him against the team's biggest rival.

BASEBALL: Cardinals continue in-state rivalry during tournament in Tennessee

Renewing an in-state rivalry will take the Ball State University baseball team outside state lines this weekend. The Cardinals will participate in the Govs Baseball Invitational and open the round-robin format against Indiana University Friday. Ball State is 2-2 after splitting its season-opening series against Furman University.

GYMNASTICS: Cards travel to Kentucky to compete in five-team meet

It will be a battle of the Midwest and the East Coast Thursday evening when the Ball State University gymnastics team travels to Lexington, Ky., for a 7 p.m. meeting against the universities of Kentucky, Illinois, North Carolina and the College of William and Mary.

SOFTBALL: Ball State continues season with another trip to the South

For the second time in as many weeks, the Ball State University softball team heads South for a five-game invitational. This weekend, the Cardinals head to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Razorback Invitational. The Cardinals look to improve their 3-2 record behind the right arm of pitcher Elizabeth Milian, who went 2-1 in last weekend's Georgia Softball Classic.

FOOTBALL: Cardinals try to earn a chance in the NFL

During the 2008 football season, Ball State University tight end Darius Hill struggled at times to catch the ball. He got another chance Thursday to prove to NFL scouts that he could bring in the passes. "I had a rough season catching the ball as a lot of people know," Hill said.

Slate hopes to computerize Writing Competency Exam

In the past few weeks Student Government Association President Frank Hood's administration has refocused attention on one of its original platform items: to change the Writing Competency Exam to a computer format. When Hood's slate began campaigning, it talked with Anna Priebe, director of the writing competency program, about making the switch.

SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cards remain in last place in MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, OHIO - For the second time this season, the Ball State University women's swimming and diving record books have to be rewritten. Junior Emily Hurst broke the Cardinals' record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.56 on Thursday at the Mid-American Conference Championships in Bowling Green.

Slates face off in final debate before Monday's vote

A debate among executive slates running for Student Government Association on Thursday gave the candidates a chance to answer questions from the audience and ask questions of each other. Unlike the moderated presidential and vice presidential debate Wednesday evening, Thursday's town-hall style debate was a more casual conversation between the three slates.

FOOTBALL: Davis returns to Ball State to prepare for NFL Draft

After leaving Ball State University in January to prepare for the 2009 NFL Draft, Nate Davis has returned to his nest. The former Cardinals quarterback said Tuesday he will return to the Ball State campus to prepare for the draft. He also said he will have his own Pro Day on the campus like the one his former teammates participated in Thursday on an undetermined date.

Survey to improve campus cell phone coverage

Two university services are working together to improve cell phone coverage on campus. Ball State Telephone Services and University Computing Services are using an online survey to collect information about the quality of cellular coverage, according to a press release.
