BASEBALL: Center fielder finishes strong for Cards

The second weekend of baseball started slowly for Ball State University and junior center fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker. Participating in the Austin Peay Invitational, Hazelbaker struck out to start the Cardinals' game against Indiana University on Friday and by the third inning they found themselves down 4-0.

FIELD HOCKEY: 9 Cardinals named to academic squad

The Ball State University field hockey team had nine players earn a spot on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad for the fifth-consecutive season Monday. The NFHCA named Kristen Falk, CJ Hermes, Hannah Jones, Brooke MacGillivary, Caitlin Maguire, Kaitlin Mitchell, Katie Norris, Melanie Pasillas and Maura Sawicki as the Cardinals who earned the recognition.

Open Mic Night acts as stage for student artists

One night every month, the Multipurpose Room in Studebaker West Complex's lobby turns into the biggest musical showcase on campus. Open Mic Night, a program started by senior TJ Fields, spotlights Ball State students' talent, whether it be acoustic music, poetry reading or interpretive dance.

GYMNASTICS: Cards claim season high score

The Ball State gymnastics team placed fourth out of five teams last Friday in an invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky. The Cardinals, 2-6 (1-5 Mid-American Conference), set a new team-high score with a 193.350. Kentucky won the meet with a 195.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Ball State brings record back to .500

The Ball State University women's tennis team picked up two wins this weekend, breaking even on the season. "I'm happy to be back at .500," said Coach Kathy Bull. The Cardinals defeated the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee 5-2 on Friday, and University of Wisconsin Green Bay 6-1 on Sunday.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Late miss cost Cards vs. Huskies

Senior guard Brandon Lampley's pull-up shot from the free-throw line with time expiring glanced off the rim, and his game-winning attempt was no good as the Ball State University men's basketball team lost 56-55 on Saturday at Northern Illinois University to fall to 13-14 (7-7 Mid-American Conference).

Spectrum's drag show excited the crowd at the 2009 Up 'til Dawn event when it appeared on stage, singing and dancing to music from Beyonce, Britney Spears and the Pussycat Dolls. It was one of many acts at this year's UtD, which combined music, comedy and charity to support St.

SWIMMING AND DIVING: Record-setting performance not enough for BSU

BOWLING GREEN, OHIO - As Ball State University swimming and diving coach Bob Thomas walked into the natatorium at Bowling Green State University, he knew his women would break some records, but he never thought they would break seven. At the Mid-American Conference Championship at Bowling Green this past weekend, the Cardinals set a Ball State record for records broken at a single meet.

SOFTBALL: Weekend tournament called off

Heading south didn't help the Ball State University softball team avoid winter weather this weekend. The team traveled to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the Razorback Invitational. In the one game the team was able to finish, the Cardinals fell 10-1 to Wichita State University.

MEN'S TENNIS: Big Ten bashes BSU once again

A developing trend has hit Ball State University, and it's not a good one for the men's tennis team. The Cardinals were unable to snap their losing streak to Big Ten Conference teams as they lost to Purdue University 5-2 on Sunday. Despite having several chances to win the match, Ball State could not capitalize and had multiple missed opportunities - a trend that has hurt the Cardinals all season, coach Bill Richards said.

THE GREAT WHITE HYPE: Administration drops the ball at BSU Pro Day

Ball State University held its Pro Day for its NFL hopeful players Thursday, but the two most prominent players didn't participate. Quarterback Nate Davis and offensive tackle Robert Brewster sat out while the other players ran, jumped, caught and did whatever was asked in order to impress the scouts in attendance.

TRACK AND FIELD: Cards finish third at MAC Championships

Crumpling the conference's sixth place prediction for the Ball State Univeristy track and field team at the Mid-American Conference Championships, the Cardinals splintered the expectation in half, finishing third place overall. Ball State and Miami University left Kent, Ohio with identical scores of 73 points.

Miss Greek raises $2,243 for Big Brothers Big Sisters

Ball State University's greeks filled Pruis Hall on Saturday night to support their community for the fifth annual Miss Greek Pageant, put on by the Sigma Nu fraternity. As Sigma Nu's main philanthropic event, the pageant raised $2,243.29 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware County.
