Sen. Lugar announced as commencement speaker

Sen. Richard Lugar, Indiana's senior senator and the U.S. Senate's ranking Republican, will serve as the Commencement speaker at Ball State University on May 9, according to a press release. Elected to his sixth term in 2006, Lugar is the longest serving U.

BASEBALL: Center fielder wins conference award

For the second straight week a member of the Ball State University baseball team was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week. Junior center fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker was the latest Cardinal to pick up the award after he went 6-for-10 in the Austin Peay Invitational.

FOOTBALL: Indiana General Assembly honors Cards

The Ball State University football team was honored Tuesday by the Indiana General Assembly for its undefeated regular season. Coach Stan Parrish, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins, co-captains Brandon Crawford and Dan Gerberry and Dante Love attended the event on behalf of Ball State.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Toledo loses, Cards at least get share of title

Despite not playing Tuesday, the Ball State University women's basketball team came one step closer to winning an out-right division title. Sitting in second place in the Mid-American Conference West Division, the University of Toledo lost to Central Michigan 80-70 in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

University begins gathering data for geothermal project

Ball State University began drilling test holes today for its geothermal energy project that begins the day after Spring commencement. Jim Lowe, director of engineering and operations, said test well fields are common for projects like this. The test holes will be used to test the capacity for heat exchange.

Custom earbuds, earplugs for sale today

The Ball State Audiology Clinic will be selling custom-made earbud adapters and musician's earplugs from 8 to 10 a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. today and from 8 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday. Custom-fitted audio products can help relieve ear pain and decrease the chance of permanent hearing loss caused by an improper fit, according to the press release.

All slates fined during election

Before the polls closed Tuesday evening, all three Student Government Association slates had been fined for campaign violations. Cardinal Collaboration and University Coalition were fined for sending e-mails to students through Gradebook, and Cardinal Impact was fined for posting fliers in an area prohibited by the Election Code, Elections Chair Marco Pretell-Vazquez said.

THINK TO EXIST: Birthday party leads to night of shenanigans

So there I was, flabbergasted by what was taking place. I was celebrating a friend's 21st birthday. There were 10 of us: five boys and five girls. The scene was Broad Ripple. The night was entertaining, but it ended with the birthday girl getting hurled on by one of our friends.

With Student Government Association elections closing today at 6:45 p.m., all three presidential candidates said they were happy with how the election season has gone and felt confident. Cardinal Impact presidential candidate Beth Cahill said she and the other members had their last speaking engagements Monday night at Pi Beta Phi sorority and Botsford/Swinford Hall floor meetings.

Sen. Richard Lugar to be Commencement speaker

Sen. Richard Lugar will be Ball State University's Commencement speaker this May, according to a press release. Lugar, the Senate's ranking Republican, was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1976 and won a sixth term in 2006 with 87 percent of the vote, according to his Web site.

Cardinal Impact wins SGA election with 56 percent of the vote

Cardinal Impact has been elected to represent Ball State University students next year in Student Government Association. Cardinal Impact received 56 percent of the total vote, over University Coalition (26 percent) in second place and Cardinal Coalition (18 percent) in third place.
