FIELD HOCKEY: Ball State suffers 3-goal loss to Villanova

The Ball State University field hockey team evened its record after losing its second game this weekend with a loss to Villanova University 4-1 Saturday in Connecticut . The Cardinals out-shot the Wildcats 10-6. Sophomore Katie Norris scored the lone Ball State goal less than one and a half minutes into the match.

Ball State student begins on-campus group for atheists

Although she was raised Catholic and attended a Catholic school prior to college, Ball State University student Lauren Rumpler is starting an on-campus organization that aims to talk about atheism. Rumpler, a junior journalism and political science major, said she got the idea to create an atheism society while looking through a list of student organizations.

FOOTBALL: 3 former Ball State starters fail to make NFL roster

Three Ball State University football players from last season's team were cut by their NFL teams on Saturday. Tackle Andre Ramsey was cut by the Seattle Seahawks, tight end Darius Hill was cut by the Cincinnati Bengals and center Dan Gerberry was cut by the Detroit Lions as NFL teams finalized their 53-man roster.

FOOTBALL: Ball State's upcoming opponent New Hampshire wins its opener

DURHAM, N.H. (AP) - Sean Jellison ran for 118 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the University of New Hampshire to a 24-14 win over St. Francis University on Saturday. Jellison, who finished with 21 carries, caught a 30-yard touchdown from R.J. Toman and scored on a 70-yard run to give the Wildcats a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.

No Ball State shuttle bus service scheduled Sunday

Ball State University shuttles have a special schedule this Labor Day Weekend, according to an all-campus e-mail sent by Bus Operations Supervisor Gary Moses. There will be no shuttle service Sunday, and shuttles on Monday will only run from 5 p.m. to 11 p.

The Cardinals (1-3) rolled by the Mastadons (3-3) behind a stout front line attack and solid defensive effort in the back row en route to a 26-24, 25-18, 25-19 win.

Commission votes to expand Ivy Tech in downtown Muncie

The Muncie Redevelopment Commission unanimously voted to give Ivy Tech Community College property in downtown Muncie to help expand its Delaware County campus. "It's a win win for everybody, and I'm just elated," Commission Director Bruce Baldwin said after the official announcement Thursday afternoon.

The Ball State University field hockey team lost its first game of the season Friday 5-4 to Fairfield University in double overtime. The Cardinals allowed three unanswered goals to end the game, including a score with four minutes left in the second half that sent the game into overtime.

Ball State University continues to trail the University of North Texas after the first half of play at Scheumann Stadium. The Mean Green scored on their first drive of the night and added a 24-yard field goal with 1:19 left in the half. On back-to-back possessions in the second quarter, each quarterback threw an interception inside the 10-yard line.
