BASEBALL: Cardinals finish season with sweep

The Ball State baseball team ended its 2014 regular season today with a 10-2 victory at Northern Illinois.With the win, the Cardinals finished the year 38-16 overall, while boasting a 22-4 mark inside the Mid-American Conference.Clay Manering got the start for Ball State, and the senior southpaw went five innings, allowing one run on five hits to earn his third win of the season.Catcher Jarret Rindfleisch opened the scoring for the Cardinals with a RBI double in the top of the first inning, and a throwing error on the Huskies in the third led to three more Cardinal runs.After the Huskies posted the team's first run of the game on a RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals answered with an Alex Maloney two-run triple in the top of the fifth to make the score 6-1.Back-to-back RBI singles from Nick Hollowell and Alex Call in the seventh extended Ball State’s lead to 8-1, and Matt Eppers added to the onslaught with a two RBI double to make the score 10-1.A bottom of the ninth-inning home run by the Huskies cut the score to 10-2, but it was as close as the team would get, as the Cardinals held on for the sweep.The Cardinals will open MAC Tournament play
