For anybody who has played Heroes of the Storm and has been struggling with getting fair and even matches, rage quit no longer. During a “State of the Game” panel at BlizzCon, game director Dustin Browder announced that a new matchmaking system is going to be implemented for Heroes of the Storm by the end of 2015.Browder explained that Heroes of the Storm took its matchmaking system from StarCraft II. However, the two games are very different. Where StarCraft’s system works great for one-on-one player matches, it doesn’t work as well for a game designed around group play. Blizzard realized they had to change the matchmaking system and had to rebuild it from “the ground up.”Browder also revealed that the matchmaking system only results in 80 percent of the games even on matchmaking, and 65 percent of the games close on levels. He described the current matchmaking system as being “too stressful” and “not very fun to play in”. Even though it’s only a 20 percent failure rate, the ratio is too high and “there are people who will fall into that 20 percent far too often.”The old system focused primarily on creating games and matches as quickly as possible and didn’t take into consideration the quality of the match. The initial time to find matches was six minutes, and then increased to 10, but has proven to not work. The system was complicated and would often hit dead-ends, leading to matches that had players with a wide variety of skill levels in the game. The new system, Browder continued, will focus more on making the match-ups in games good rather than making them speedy. The game will build a queue based off of people with similar skill levels, and the time spent waiting for a match will not affect the match’s quality, in most cases.“If you’re in Brazil at 4 in the morning, and you’re one of the highest ranked players in the world,” Browder said, “maybe we don’t want to wait 30 minutes to get you the best match.” Browder did promise, however, that situations like these would be an exception, rather than the rule of matchmaking.Browder said that Blizzard has been running simulations in the new system while using live data, and the games have been much more balanced. The differences in player ranks is a much smaller gap, while the character roles are more balanced than before between the members of groups. The intent is to launch the new matchmaking system within the next two to three weeks. Browder stated, however, that it’s “an intent”—which means no promises.-----Source: Polygon, KotakuImage: Forbes

A few tech-savvy gamers have discovered that if they tweak with Pip-Boy's files, they are able to uncover a selection of mini games. One game, featured in a video uploaded by Robert Peterson, called Red Menace, is a take on Donkey Kong. The only differences with the game are that instead of Donkey Kong stealing the princess away, a communist steals a vault girl away. There are also a few discrepancies with the types of levels, one featuring conveyor belts that the player must move against.Three other mini games that have been discovered are Zeta Invaders (Space Invaders), Pipfall (Pitfall), and an RPG called Grognak. None of these games are direct copies of the games they are mimicking, with Zeta Invaders featuring a farm-esque landscape and aliens, while Pipfall has a goal of collecting bobbleheads before a timer runs out.Grognak is a game all on its own, featuring elements of a classic RPG game with its own cast of characters and storyline.A video of the four unveiled mini games was uploaded, thanks to TroyIrving.Bethesda recently released the Pip-Boy companion app that couples with Fallout 4, which is set to be released on November 10. The app is designed to connect to whatever version of Fallout 4 you have purchased and will show character stats, your inventory and map data as well as various miscellaneous options, like mini games. However, the app is only in demo mode for the time being. The only available options for the app so far are the ability to view fake character stats, inventory and maps. There is also an option to play a mini game called Atomic Command, Fallout 4’s version of Missile Command, where players destroy atomic bombs before they reach important American cities. You can see the video here from Casey Likes Games: The Pip-Boy app is currently available for iOS and Android.-----Source: KotakuImage: Kotaku

Nintendo announced at an investor’s meeting on Wednesday October 28 that Miitomo, Nintendo’s first smartphone project with DeNA, will be delayed until 2016.IGN reported that in a translation by The Wall Street Journal from Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima, Miitomo is going to be “free-to-play, with attractive add-ons that people can pay for.” Other smartphone games will be “pay-to-download.”IGN also reported that Nintendo added in a statement after the presentation that Miitomo is:“a free-to-start communication application that helps friends share fun personal facts and interests. Consumers create and use their own Mii characters to engage friends in a welcoming social environment, answering questions and sharing information to discover more about each other and what they have in common.”The game is designed to appeal to a large demographic of smart device users, starting with introducing them to Miitomo and then eventually taking those interactions further through future applications.Nintendo confirmed during the meeting that Miitomo and other mobile titles won’t launch until 2016, with Kimishima stating that the delay is due to “the need for more lead time to fully promote and explain Miitomo.” Miitomo will be promoted after the holiday season.Nintendo’s partnership with DeNA was announced in March. Nintendo said that DeNA would handle the service-oriented operations while Nintendo would mainly handle development. The partnership between the two companies promises five more titles through 2017. Some analysts predict the “bigger” franchises won’t be revealed until sometime next year.Miitomo is not the first mobile game Nintendo has announced. Earlier this year, The Pokemon Company announced Pokemon Go for mobile devices. They also released Pokemon Shuffle for iOS and Android, and Pokemon Trading Card Game for iPad.-----Source: IGNImage: Wayerless
