BASEBALL: Ball State hopes for improved hitting, defense during Spring Break

After a slow start to a still-young season, the Ball State University baseball team looks to rectify its hitting woes and erase mental mistakes on defense during its Spring Break travels to Tennessee, Minnesota and Southern Indiana. The Cardinals (1-4) will start the road trip with a visit to Nashville, where they'll play Vanderbilt in a three-game series, followed by a game against Belmont.

LETTERS: Students' transportation fees should help fund The Loop

Dear Editor, I was distressed when I read The Loop was being cancelled because Ball State University is refusing to fund it. For those of us who live far past campus, The Loop has made the trek to campus much less painful. All Ball State students pay transportation fees, yet not all of them are getting adequate transportation.

GYMNASTICS: Cards to compete in two meets over break

The Ball State gymnastics team will be traveling to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, this weekend. The team is competing against Southeast Missouri with Centenary and Missouri on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Cardinals have two meets over Spring Break. On Friday, March 10, the team will be in Lexington, Kentucky, to compete against the University of Kentucky and Air Force.

"Police Yourself" was created in March 2004 after the death of Karl Harford, and students complained, mocked it and ignored the message. "Save Yourself" came to Ball State University Thursday night, and hundreds of students showed up to hear the message. The major difference between the campaigns is national exposure, but the message stays the same: Make good choices.

It's hard out there ... in the world of censorship, that is. That's the message ABC Television and the heads of the Academy Awards are spreading through the world of entertainment. The broadcast network, which is airing the 78th edition of the awards program Sunday night, is allowing the word "bitches" to be aired during the painfully-long and overly star-studded event.

The Ball State University men's volleyball team has fallen on rough times lately.-áRough times in terms of the men's volleyball team's standards, anyway, as they have lost twice in the past two weeks. If that's not bad enough, the team is restructuring after the loss of freshman Jim Shiel.

Many parents try to pass off their child's eating disorder as "just another phase," said Liz Cassidy, a doctoral intern at the Ball State University Counseling Center. "You also see this with depression where people will say, 'Oh this is just teenage angst or something like that,'" Cassidy said to students at the L.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals defeat 'feisty' Bearcats

The Ball State University women's tennis team isn't used to starting matches at 8:30 p.m., but it was no problem for the Cardinals on Wednesday night, as they defeated Cincinnati 6-1. "It was a very intense, heated match," coach Kathy Bull said. "They were a feisty team and they really lived up to their reputation.

MEN'S TENNIS: Team warms up for Vegas

The Ball State University men's tennis team will venture out of the state for the first time in over a month when they take on UNLV on March 10, in Las Vegas. The No. 58 Cardinals enjoy their highest ranking of the season as a result of their current nine-game winning streak.

SOFTBALL: Cards defeat IUPUI, fall to Bellarmine

The Ball State University softball team (3-3) was able to snap its two-game losing streak yesterday with a 4-2 win against IUPUI. However, the Cardinals lost their next game against Bellarmine University 1-0. "We had a lot of scoring opportunities and should have won this game but we just didn't execute properly," Laux said.

TRACK AND FIELD:Cards get last chance at NCAA nationals

This weekend a couple of Cardinals will get one last chance to qualify for indoor track and field nationals prior to Spring Break. Throughout the season, sophomore Amber Williams and junior Terri Abraham have been setting themselves up for a chance to qualify for the NCAA indoor national championships.

LETTERS: Television commercials should show more students, campus

Dear Editor, I am relieved to read that I'm not alone in my thoughts on Ball State University's television advertising campaign. When I was in eighth grade, I remember a goofy bunch of commercials with an over-ecstatic blonde boasting Ball State's award-winning attributes.
