Author speaks about climate change issues

Before setting foot on the Emens Auditorium, John R. stage Tuesday night, Elizabeth Kolbert picked up a copy of The Star Press and saw some unsettling news. Kolbert read an article that said out of 23 Ball State University students in a discussion group about her book, four students were concerned about climate change.

President of the Ball State University Democrats Mike Uehlein knows how much of a difference eight days can make in college politics. When the Sept. 9 Delaware County Election Board meeting began, Uehlein was confident in his joint statement with Campus Republican President R.

Fraternity recruitment begins this week, weather delays events by one day

Fraternity recruitment on Ball State University's campus was postponed from Sunday to Monday because of rain but will continue through the week as normal. This year set itself apart from previous years by kicking off the process with an open house. The Interfraternity Council was responsible for hosting the round-robin event, which was open to any man on campus.

Only 10 months after the release of Rock Band, developer Harmonix has returned for an encore with Rock Band 2, a game that improves on almost everything the previous game did, and that's saying a lot considering the original Rock Band was met with near universal praise by critics and gaming enthusiasts alike.

FOOTBALL: Correcting the catching woes

Nate Davis walked from the football training complex in jeans and a T-shirt, flipping a football in the air, and stepped onto the Scheumann Stadium turf. His tight end, Darius Hill, followed a couple steps behind, dressed in practice clothes. Davis and the rest of Ball State University's players did not have practice Monday, but Hill had work to do.

SOCCER: Walk-on wonders excel for Cardinals

Unlike most of their teammates, Olivia Ramirez and Tina Vannatta came to Ball State University without scholarships for their soccer abilities. Despite the lack of recognition through scholarships, the two walk-ons to the Ball State soccer team have gained recognition from their coaches and teammates for their abilities during their freshman seasons.

School changes policy

Sticking true to its slogan of "Education Redefined," Ball State University has made a move to the modern age in its graduate school program. Rather than submitting research papers, theses, dissertations and other documents in paper form, graduate students are now required to submit them electronically.

When Matt Wagley attended Ball State University he was not actively involved in campus. As a non-traditional student, he said, the age gap made being involved too difficult. Now, the Ball State alumnus is getting involved in a big way by running for Delaware County treasurer.

The increasing buzz surrounding some of young Hollywood's choice to abstain from pre-marital sex hit its pinnacle at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards last week. During the show, host and British comedian, Russell Brand, gibed the Jonas Brothers for wearing purity rings - an external symbol of their decision to save sex for marriage.

Microsoft launches more secure browser

Microsoft is launching an internet browser that allows users to surf the Web without leaving a trace of the sites they've visited. InPrivate Browsing, or the "porn mode" browser, is becoming accepted at locations offering public access to computers. This could become an important tool on Ball State University's campus to protect the privacy of students.
