"Police Yourself" was created in March 2004 after the death of Karl Harford, and students complained, mocked it and ignored the message. "Save Yourself" came to Ball State University Thursday night, and hundreds of students showed up to hear the message. The major difference between the campaigns is national exposure, but the message stays the same: Make good choices.
It's hard out there ... in the world of censorship, that is. That's the message ABC Television and the heads of the Academy Awards are spreading through the world of entertainment. The broadcast network, which is airing the 78th edition of the awards program Sunday night, is allowing the word "bitches" to be aired during the painfully-long and overly star-studded event.
Dear Editor, It's a real shame that only once every two years does the world have an event that attempts to bring it together. And it is an even bigger shame that event, the Olympics, is based on competition, patriotism and personal pride rather than unity and equality.
The Ball State University men's volleyball team has fallen on rough times lately.-áRough times in terms of the men's volleyball team's standards, anyway, as they have lost twice in the past two weeks. If that's not bad enough, the team is restructuring after the loss of freshman Jim Shiel.
Dear Editor, Hats off to the Ball State student body for turning out in great numbers and rallying around the men's volleyball team this season. Worthen Arena has been an exciting and fun place to be on game night thanks to the student body and its great support.
Many parents try to pass off their child's eating disorder as "just another phase," said Liz Cassidy, a doctoral intern at the Ball State University Counseling Center. "You also see this with depression where people will say, 'Oh this is just teenage angst or something like that,'" Cassidy said to students at the L.
The Ball State University women's tennis team isn't used to starting matches at 8:30 p.m., but it was no problem for the Cardinals on Wednesday night, as they defeated Cincinnati 6-1. "It was a very intense, heated match," coach Kathy Bull said. "They were a feisty team and they really lived up to their reputation.
The Ball State University men's tennis team will venture out of the state for the first time in over a month when they take on UNLV on March 10, in Las Vegas. The No. 58 Cardinals enjoy their highest ranking of the season as a result of their current nine-game winning streak.
The Ball State University softball team (3-3) was able to snap its two-game losing streak yesterday with a 4-2 win against IUPUI. However, the Cardinals lost their next game against Bellarmine University 1-0. "We had a lot of scoring opportunities and should have won this game but we just didn't execute properly," Laux said.
This weekend a couple of Cardinals will get one last chance to qualify for indoor track and field nationals prior to Spring Break. Throughout the season, sophomore Amber Williams and junior Terri Abraham have been setting themselves up for a chance to qualify for the NCAA indoor national championships.
After five midterms and three papers, I am ready for Spring Break. All of us - students, faculty and family members alike - are probably ready for Spring Break to begin. For many people, this has already been a long, hard semester. And we are only about halfway through.
Provost candidate Y.T. Shah will visit campus today to participate in an open forum with the Ball State community. Find out more about the provost search and Shah's experiences.
Dear Editor, I am relieved to read that I'm not alone in my thoughts on Ball State University's television advertising campaign. When I was in eighth grade, I remember a goofy bunch of commercials with an over-ecstatic blonde boasting Ball State's award-winning attributes.
Dear Editor, In response to your Tuesday editorial "Not quite 'Everything you Need,'" you might pause to reconsider the qualitative merit of the superb collection of the Ball State University Museum of Art relative to the offerings of the food court at the Atrium.
The Ball State men's basketball team won its first conference championship in 1981. Led by Ray McCallum, the Cardinals nearly upset Boston College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Last night, the members of that team were honored in a halftime ceremony.
Let the games begin - again. In October, President Jo Ann Gora announced that the search for Ball State University's next provost would start over. The initial five-month search was rife with complications and concerns from both faculty and students. Starting over was the right decision in October, and hopefully during the upcoming candidate forums the university will prove that decision was worthwhile.
I completely agree with the editorial, "Not quite 'Everything You Need,'" printed in Tuesday's paper. That was a complete waste of money. Why would we not settle for second but would settle for third? The commercials are terrible and in one of the oldest building on campus.
After being passed by the Indiana House of Representatives at the beginning of February, House Bill 1080, which is a bill regulating the physical layouts of abortion clinics, has caused a recent stir. On the surface, the bill itself seems harmless - it mainly sets building standards that would suggest better accessibility and privacy.
The Ball State University softball team will continue its 13-game trip away from home tomorrow afternoon as it will be traveling to Louisville, Ky., to play against IUPUI (1-3) and Bellarmine (2-4). Getting the start on the mound against IUPUI will be sophomore Amanda Pick (1-0).
