Mr. and Ms. Ball State competition showcases campus' best built bodies

Move out of the way, Arnold Schwarzennager. Andrew Risley and Erica Gilkerson proved they have the "top bods" of this year's Mr. and Ms. Ball State competition. With dueling brothers, flipping gymnasts and a comedic M.C., this variety show of sorts was an entertaining treat for Emens audiences who gathered to support their loved ones who strutted their stuff on the stage.

MITS, Ball State officials to meet about Loop route

The Loop trolley could be running down McKinley Avenue again depending on the outcome of conversations between Ball State University and MITS. At Monday's Cardinal Leadership Roundtable, President Jo Ann Gora said administrators would be meeting with MITS to discuss the Loop route, which ran as an experiment this winter.

BASEBALL: Cards complete comeback with Dygert walk-off homer

Kyle Dygert hit a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give Ball State University's baseball team a thrilling 17-15 win over Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. Dygert said that with the wind blowing out, he was looking for the right pitch in the right spot.

SGA approves new call box for University Green

A new bright blue call box could help light up University Green if approved by Ball State University. Legislation supporting the new call box passed in Student Government Association Student Senate on Wednesday afternoon. Amendments were made while it was on the senate floor, including the addition of a quote from Gene Burton, director of Public Safety.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Overcoming obstacles

Ball State University men's volleyball senior Evan Berg knows a little bit about coping with conditions. When he was born he had defects in his heart. Three, to be exact. Berg has a coarctation of the aorta. The aorta, which is the main valve coming off a heart, is "kinked like a garden hose," as Berg put it.

LOST IN TRANSIT: PEFWL doesn't offer real competition or athletic challenge

Dodgeballs are flying, Frisbees are sailing and cheap jerseys are draping over the bodies of each team. Girls stand hopelessly near the goal, wishing for the boys to throw the ball their way, by chance. They get within scoring range time after time, but still, the boys take risky shots that never make it.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: First assistant named to staff

One of the assistant coaching positions on the Ball State University men's basketball team has been filled. Steven Flint will be leaving the College of Southern Idaho for a position at Ball State. Steve Gosar, current assistant basketball coach at the CSI, confirmed that Flint had been hired.

Health Center to reopen after plumbing problem

The Amelia T. Wood Health Center closed Wednesday around 3 p.m. after a plumbing problem. Water had leaked onto the floor and there was an odor in the building, said Glenn Augustine, associate director of University Communications. The building also had no running water for toilets or sinks, he said.

Speakers discuss copyright issues

Cutting and pasting information from the Internet can be so easy for a student to do, but at the same time, it is wrong, a Ball State University official said. Because the digital age has presented many problems for protection and use of intellectual property, students need to be aware of their rights, said Fritz Dolak, copyright and intellectual property manager of the Ball State University Copyright Center.

LETTERS: Immigrants should have to earn their citizenship rights as in past

Dear Editor, I would like to say "earn it" to illegal Hispanic immigrants. In the past, immigrants crossing the Atlantic and Pacific oceans had a lot to go through. They were all herded through the halls of either Ellis Island or Angel Island, required to pass a series of tests - including a health exam - and then expected to earn their rights to be American citizens.

Buff boys and bikini-clad beauties are preparing to "pump it up" in tonight's bodybuilding competition. Feeding on an anxiety high and sheer excitement, these would-be bodybuilders practice posing to pump themselves up to place as "top bod" in the Mr. and Ms.

Tens of thousands of immigrants took to the streets all across the nation Monday for a day of action billed as a "campaign for immigrants' dignity," according to a Monday Associated Press article. In North Carolina and Dallas, many vowed to skip work and boycott all purchases to demonstrate the economic effects of immigrant groups.

Best Buddies volunteer time with disabled

Among the shouts of excited bowlers and crash of the pins, Ball State University students helped their "buddies" bowl at Ball State University's Best Buddies Awards Ceremony/Bowling Night Wednesday night. As one man bowled a strike on his first try, the members erupted into applause, and the man high-fived his college buddy.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cards hope for reversal of trend

It would be foolish to call this Mid-American Conference matchup a feud or a rivalry. Miami University (9-8, 4-1 MAC) has dominated the Ball State University women's tennis team (8-9, 2-3 MAC) for a long time, having won 28 of the last 29 matches. Coach Kathy Bull is 1-17 lifetime versus the Redhawks going into Saturday's matchup.
