TRACK AND FIELD: Cardinals set two school records

The Ball State University women's track and field squad wrapped up the four-day Searay Relays on Saturday. The meet kicked off Wednesday, March 12 in Knoxville, Tenn. 119 teams and 20,000 athletes participated in the event, which was not team scored. The Cardinals had numerous highlights during the week.

BASEBALL: Kent State downs Cardinals in battle of division leaders

In a series between the two best teams in the Mid-American Conference, the Ball State University baseball squad's slow start prevented it from taking control of the league's standings. The Cardinals (19-16 overall, 7-5 MAC) lost two of three games against Kent State University (20-12 overall, 8-4 MAC).

One of the elements that separates elite golfers from average players is the short game. Whether it's pitch shots, chips or putts, the majority of shots during a players' round come from around the green. The importance of the short game is something the men's golf team has stressed recently.

THE LEFT SIDE OF THE COUCH: Marsh needed to cooperate with library

During the last few weeks, there have been rumors the Muncie Public Library would buy a piece of valuable property from Marsh Supermarkets. On Wheeling Avenue, Marsh owns the building that housed the former Ross Supermarket and later LoBill Foods. With the idea that Marsh is seeking buyers of its stores, the building on Wheeling Avenue will most likely be sold for less money than the company is seeking because of its less-than-ideal commercial value.

Comedic improvisers from around the region will be collaborating with Ball State University's most renowned comedy troupe Saturday at the 8th annual Best of the Midwest Improv Comedy Fest. The event will be held in Cardinal Hall, located in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center, and is set to begin at 8 p.

For Rafael Briones, promoting diversity on the Ball State University campus is not a choice but a responsibility. The graduate student is a step closer to helping fulfill that responsibility as he embarks on the final interview for a 20-minute documentary that aims to encourage Hispanic students to attend college.

SOFTBALL: Struggling Cardinals look for home remedy

It is a common saying that a sports season is not a sprint but a marathon. For the Ball State University softball team (9-17, 3-5 Mid-American Conference) though, this weekend might turn into a sprint. Having lost six of its last seven games, the Cardinals return to Muncie this weekend to play two games against both Bowling Green State University (23-15, 6-2) and the University of Toledo (11-25, 2-5).

I regret nothing. Life is too short, and I do not believe regretting anything is productive or healthy. Every decision I have made in my lifetime has brought me one step closer to who I am today. While I have done some things I probably should not have and have not done some things I probably should have, I cannot in good conscience regret any of my decisions.

The ride to class on a Ball State University shuttle isn't usually all that productive, but students who rode the MITS trolley along The Loop this winter accomplished a lot. Due to the high ridership numbers and general student support of the Loop, Ball State administrators decided Thursday to bring the east-of-campus shuttle back on a permanent basis.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Warm weather, high winds to come into play in Illinois

The Ball State University women's golf team will kick off the Illini Spring Classic today at the Stone Creek Country Club in Urbana, Ill. Last year, senior Carmen Bodine tied for first in the same tournament. The two-day event will be the Cardinals' final competition before the Mid-American Conference Championships in two weeks.

MEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals, Broncos fight for supremacy

At least a portion of the Mid-American Conference championship will be determined this weekend. The Ball State University men's tennis team will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., to play the Western Michigan University Broncos, who will both come into Saturday's match at a perfect 3-0 in MAC play.

Another Ball State University administrator is looking for employment at a different campus. Philip Repp, associate vice president of information technology, is one of three finalists for the position of information technology chief at Central Michigan University.

Men's basketball team begins recruitment for 2006-07 season

With the hiring of men's basketball coach Ronny Thompson's first assistant coach on Thursday, recruitment for the 2006-07 season is in full swing. Thompson has five scholarships he can offer to recruits until the end of the signing period on May 17, and there could be even more if freshmen Landon Adler and Pat Nelson decide to transfer.
