TRACK: Seniors race at nationals

Two Ball State University seniors closed out their track careers on a national stage this weekend.-á Jill Scully and Jennifer McCoy represented the Cardinals at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Sacramento, Calif.-á McCoy completed her career at Ball State with a 27th place finish in the heptathlon on Saturday with a score of 4,167.

Telecommunication students take gold statue at Student Academy Awards with 'Perspective'

Two Ball State University students took home a gold Student Academy Award Saturday, marking the second consecutive year telecommunications students received this honor. Travis Hatfield and Samuel Day were awarded the top honor in alternative student-produced films from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their film "Perspective" during a ceremony in Los Angeles.

A group of 12 United States Marines are being held at Camp Pendleton in California on charges that they murdered 24 innocent Iraqis in the town of Haditha, which is located about 150 miles northwest of Baghdad. This incident was suspected to have taken place approximately eight months ago and has come to be a battle cry for the Iraqis and war protesters here in America.

An average person uses media for more hours a day than he sleeps, according to data collected by the Middletown Media Studies efforts. As a branch of the Center for Media Design, the Middletown Media Studies project continues to release reports analyzing information collected on people's real-time media use.

Although the Ball State University baseball team failed to survive the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in the Lexington, Ky. regional this past weekend, three Cardinal players were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Bryan Bullington could be the best talent to ever emerge from a Ball State University athletic program.-á As the number one overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2002 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, Bullington inherited higher expectations than most, following the footsteps of former number one overall picks such as Ken Griffey Jr.

Four players on the Ball State University baseball team will take the next step towards the big leagues. Pitcher Ben Snyder, first baseman Brad Miller and center fielder Mike Sullivan were drafted in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Scottsdale, a town of 6,000 in southern Indiana, faced a problem in 2002. The local car dealership, O'Neal Chrysler, threatened to move out because it was having difficulty accessing service manuals online. With only dial-up Internet service available in the small town, businesses were struggling.

Storm Chase Team adviser to leave BSU

After eight years, a Ball State University professor responsible for developing the meteorology program and expanding labs available to students will head to another university in the fall. David Arnold, associate professor of geography, will move to Frostburg State University, a public university in Maryland with a total enrollment of just more than 5,000 students.

BASEBALL: Cardinals eliminated from NCAA Regionals

LEXINGTON, Ky. - With the University of Kentucky leading 11-5 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, the plan was to record the final six outs quickly and put Ball State University on its bus. That's not the way the Cardinals saw it playing out, however.

If music is autobiographical, then the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd has engrained itself in the hearts and minds of its fans in Muncie, providing the soundtrack to their lives. Bill York remembers the first time he saw Lynyrd Skynyrd. York and a friend drove down to Noblesville to see the southern rock legends play at Verizon Wireless Amplitheatre, then called Deer Creek Music Center, in 1998, and he says he had a great time.

Administrator leaves Ball State for WMU post

After 11 years at Ball State University, Associate Director of Admissions Penny Bundy is leaving to take a position at a another university. Bundy was hired as admissions director for Western Michigan University and will start Aug. 1. While at Ball State, Bundy was responsible for school and college relations and was in charge of all recruitment efforts, Larry Waters, dean of admissions and enrollment services, said.

As a larger-than-usual freshman class begins orientation to Ball State University's campus today, administrators need to keep in mind what problems could arise if the freshman class grows to be too large. In 2002, some students living in residence halls had to share study lounges because there weren't enough rooms to meet the need.
