Ball State earns first win of MAC campaign over Northern Illinois

After Ball State men’s tennis dropped their opening Mid-American Conference (MAC) matchup against Western Michigan Friday, head coach Bill Richards had one message for his team: “How you come back from a loss really defines you as a player, defines you as a coach, defines you as a team,” Richards said. Sunday, the Cardinals (9-6, 1-2 MAC) responded with a 5-2 win over the Northern Illinois Huskies (11-4, 3-1 MAC). Coming in, the team knew what was at stake after their 0-2 start.

Even though the two Delaware County teams came up short, they both had successful seasons. Before this year, Wapahani had never even won a regional. The Raiders were also the Delaware County Tournament champions.

Members of the LGBTQ+ community are being restricted from donating blood and plasma

You must be 18 years or older. You must weigh more than 110 pounds. You must be in good health.  Simple rules for donating blood, right?  Not necessarily.  You must not be a male who has had sexual contact with another male in the last three months. You may be able to donate blood as a trans man … but not if you’ve had sex with another man in the last three months. If you are an individual who identifies as female and has had sex with a man, you may be eligible to donate blood.

Cardinals split away series against Kent State

In the first game, the Cardinals fell 4-3 after the Golden Flashes hit a walk-off double. As a team, the Cardinals (11-12, 1-1 MAC) only had five hits. But the second game was a much different story as they launched a season high of 16 hits to win 15-9.

JOSLIN: Hoosier Hysteria’s impact on my life

On a cold Saturday night in March 2017, I stood in line alongside others waiting to get inside a beige brick building. You would think it’s just an old, uninteresting building; however, it is the gym of my high school, New Castle High School. And on this day, it was the location of the high school basketball sectional championship game, and our hometown New Castle Trojans had a chance to win and continue our hopes for a state championship.

Ball State drops to 0-2 in MAC play after loss versus Western Michigan

The MAC men’s tennis championship runs through Western Michigan (7-6, 3-0). They’ve won four consecutive regular season championships, with their only loss during that time coming to the Cardinals last year. Ball State (8-6, 0-2) had opportunities to win certain points, but the championship pedigree of the Broncos came through.

A promising postseason

“We made a goal all summer and all fall and then throughout the season to stay focused on winning the sectional, it was a great accomplishment,” said Matt Luce, the Wapahani head coach. “Then to win Saturday night against Carroll (Flora) was great and kind of a history-making thing for our school.”

Students look forward to March Madness

“Whoever wins, it’s cool, as long as it’s not Kentucky,” said Jacob Walker, a student at Ball State. “If Kentucky wins, I’ll literally just throw up. We’re in Indiana, you just can’t root for them.”
