Student Government passes elections code changes

Student Government Association voted to approve some of the changes to the elections code addressing issues and concerns from the previous election. Campaign season will last only two weeks this year, versus last year’s three week election season duration. SGA vice president Alyssa France said candidates last year expressed that three weeks was too long.

Marriage ban moves to General Assembly

The Indiana Assembly’s Election and Apportionment committee passed House Joint Resolution 3 in a 9-3 vote Wednesday after more than four hours of testimony. As a result, the amendment will be presented to the General Assembly before being given to voters to decide if the state constitution should be changed in November. The vote followed a week of internal debate among House Republicans and a power play by House Speaker Brian Bosma, which lined up the affirmative vote Wednesday.

Presidential search releases qualifications, contacts candidates

The search for Ball State’s next president continues as 250-300 potential candidates will receive information about the university and presidency. Baker and Associates, the search firm conducting the search, released the candidate specifications detailing hopes of a visionary candidate with bold dreams for Ball State.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State tries to end losing streak

Four games in, the Ball State men’s basketball team is still looking for its first conference win, this time against Buffalo. The Bulls are a team well-known for stretching out defenses and shooting the ball without much hesitation, things Ball State struggled with in its previous loss to Miami. “We got done with the Miami game and watched the game as a team on Sunday,” head coach James Whitford said.

Authorities find no evidence of shots fired at University of Oklahoma

NORMAN, Oklahoma — University of Oklahoma officials say there are reports of shots fired on campus and are telling everyone to stay where they are. Local police say they have no independent confirmation of a shooting Wednesday but have sent up to a half-dozen officers to the campus, which is about 20 miles (30 kilometers) south of Oklahoma City. The university posted a notice on its website Wednesday that people should avoid Gould Hall.

University reschedules classes canceled due to inclement weather

The university has rescheduled classes that were canceled Jan. 6 and Jan. 7 due to inclement weather, according to an email sent to students. Citing federal regulations, the email said the new dates will allow students taking five-week courses to make up missed hours before the classes end. *Jan.

Arizona State University fraternity under scrutiny for MLK Day party

PHOENIX — An Arizona State University fraternity’s operations have been suspended following accusations that the local Tau Kappa Epsilon chapter hosted a distasteful party in commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, replete with racist stereotypes and offensive costumes. University officials planned to meet Tuesday with fraternity representatives regarding the off-campus party over the weekend.
