11th annual Carnival to return Friday

Though the sweet aroma of carnival foods and strobing lights have yet to overtake the C1 commuter lot, the gears are in motion for this year’s Late Nite Carnival.This is the 11th year Late Nite has hosted a carnival, which is running a week earlier because of Easter. The Carnival is free to attend for Ball State students that bring a student ID, but guests, faculty and staff will be charged $5 for admission.

BASEBALL: Cardinals comeback falls short, lose to Butler

Riding a three-game win streak, the Ball State baseball team took a break from its conference schedule to travel to Butler, where Ball State fell 5-6.Chris Lovejoy took the mound for the first time this season as a starting pitcher, and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits.


Collegiate guard shares sexuality

Derrick Gordon, guard for University of Massachusetts Amherst’s basketball team, hopes his decision to become the first openly gay player in Division I men’s college basketball will inspire others.“There are a lot of kids out there in my situation, probably far worse situations,” he said in a phone interview with The Associated Press.

Study abroad can lead to openness, agreeableness, report says

After adapting to a new culture, many study abroad students see their own personalities change.A 2013 study by Jena Julia Zimmermann and Franz Neyer, two German psychologists at Friedrich Schiller University, found that students’ personalities can develop and mature from studying abroad.


SGA amends election code to reduce problems

The past two Student Government Association elections have seen two maximum fines, elections code loopholes, a presidential resignation and potential disqualifications.SGA took steps to change elections code by entering amendments that were voted into place Wednesday.Typically, the elections code is amended in the Fall Semester or before the election season in February, but Anagnos said she wanted to make changes before she leaves office.

Switch to Blackboard should help technology failures with Writing Proficiency Exam

Technology issues can add to the stress of taking the Writing Proficiency Exam, but a shift to Blackboard is looking to correct this issue.Ball State students have to take the pass or fail Writing Proficiency Exam when they have at least 60 credit hours, but they must pass it before they have 89 credit hours — the test is a graduation requirement. If they do not pass on the second attempt, or opt out, they must take the seven-week WPP 393 Writing Proficiency Course.
