The Indiana Department of Health has confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus (WNV) in mosquitoes in Delaware County, according to a Facebook post

With WNV found annually across the state, officials urge residents to assume it’s present each mosquito season. Preventive tips include removing standing water, using insect repellent, and wearing protective clothing.

"We don't need to live in fear, but we do need to be cautious and respect mosquitoes as more than a minor annoyance," the post reads.

Though WNV typically causes mild illness, it can lead to severe neurological complications, especially in those over 50. The post encouraged readers to take year-round precautions to reduce mosquito breeding and avoid bites.
