The Office of Inclusive Excellence and the Ball State Center for Peace and Conflict Studies hosted a peace vigil for the Israel-Palestine conflict Nov. 1.
The vigil was held at Beneficence. Speakers stood before the statue, illuminated by the glow of candles and streetlights.
The vigil included speeches from several faculty members, moments of silence and musical performances from professors George Wolfe and Robert Wiley. At a table near the podium, paper was provided for participants to leave a message. Rashida Willard, associate vice president for inclusive excellence, said that the messages would be posted around campus.
During the vigil, protesters from the student group Feminists for Action stood near the center of the field. They held signs expressing their support for the people of Palestine and criticizing the actions of the Israeli government.
Alongside others attending, they remained silent and still. Save for the few moments when faculty came up to speak, the field was completely quiet.
