Cardinals defeat Miami in three game series

The Ball State Baseball team won its series with Miami (Ohio), only losing one of the three games.

The series took place from May 12-14. The Cardinals (32-18, 19-8 MAC) dropped the first game and won the last two to take the series. 

Friday - Game One 

The first game saw the Cardinals lose 14-8. 

All 14 points scored by the Redhawks (19-34, 13-17 MAC) in the eighth inning alone. In the inning, they were able to draw 10 walks and five hits. 

Even though they did not win, Ball State led the majority of the contest, leading by four until the downfall in the eighth inning. 

Senior pitcher Trennor O’Donnell had a great day on the mound with 11 strikeouts, no earned runs pitched seven full innings. 

On the hitting side, sophomore Hunter Dobbins was 3-2 with one run, graduate student Justin Conant went 3-2 with two runners batted in and also one run and senior Adam Tellier also went 3-2 with two runners batted in and also one run. Tellier batted in the first two runs to make it 2-0. 

Down 14-4, the Cardinals did fight back in the ninth with four runs but were unable to complete a comeback and lost by six. 

Saturday - Game Two

Coming off of a 3-2 at the plate appearance the day before Dobbins picked up right where he left off. He went 3-2 with two home runs and also added three runners batted in. 

Dobbins home run gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning and his second homerun would make things 3-0 in Ball States’ favor through five innings. 

Graduate student pitcher Ty Weatherly had an impressive day with a career-high 11 strikeouts and seven innings pitched with no earned runs. 

The Redhawk’s lone run came from sophomore David Novak with his home run in the ninth inning. 

With the Cardinal’s win, they evened the series at 1-1 with the final game coming up on Sunday. 

Sunday - Game Three

With the series on the line, Ball State was able to beat Miami 8-3. 

Ball State took a quick 1-0 lead with a home run from junior Decker Scheffler in the third inning. He would finnish his at bats going 4-3. 

After a Redhawk score, after the third inning, the Cardinals had a 3-1 lead. 

Tellier went 5-3 at bat and had three runners batted in. 

Knapp started on the mound and pitched 4 ⅔ innings. He had two strikeouts and earned two runs. 

Ball State will be at Southern Indiana in Evansville on May 16. The game will start 7 p.m.
