The first win of the season for Ball State Field Hockey (1-0, 0-0) came Aug. 26 with a 2-1 win over Saint Francis University (0-1, 0-0). Being the first win of the season, it was also the first win for new head coach Caitlin Walsh.
“It feels rewarding,” Walsh said. “All the hard work they have put in when I was with them in the spring translated throughout the summer. They came ready to go in preseason and that’s what you saw today. So very exciting.
Freshman forward Fleur Nopert, who scored the first goal of the game in the second half and assisted the second, laid out the Cardinals’ goal for the season, a Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship.
“I just wanted to play in America,” Nopert said. “Our only goal is to win the MAC competition and that starts with today.”
Junior forward Maureen Donegan scored the second goal while junior goalkeeper Hannah Johnston had 10 saves, allowing the Red Flash to only score once.
Ball State will be back at home against Lehigh University Sep. 3 at 12 p.m.
