In a press release sent out March 16, an Indiana University Health (IU Health) spokesperson said in the release that to ensure the safety of their team members and preserve resources, new guidance has been given to IU Health providers and team members.
Effective immediately, the spokesperson said, all elective, non-urgent surgeries and procedure will be rescheduled. Primary care and specialty follow-up visits will be done either virtually or rescheduled.
Other operations that will be moved virtually or rescheduled include well-child visits for children ages two and older, and physical, occupational and speech visits, according to the press release.
Newborn and well-child visits for any children younger than two years old will continue, the spokesperson said in the release.
On the IU Health website, it states that starting Sunday, no visitors are allowed in IU Health hospitals. Exceptions for one visitor could be made if any of the following apply:
- OB/delivery
- Pediatrics
- Emergency Department (ED)
- Outpatient surgery
- Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health (one parent/legal guardian per patient)
Exceptions for an allowance for two consistent designated visitors could be made if there is a life threatening situation or the patient is in an Neonatal intensive care units (NICU), where one visitor will be allowed in at a time.
