Changes made to Student Government Association (SGA) bylaws may change how cabinet members interact with the regular senate.

SGA proposed a resolution on Feb. 18, calling for cabinet members of the executive slate to report to the senate monthly in a presentation or through the chief of staff. The resolution passed through, 36 to 4, at the senate meeting Wednesday.

Jake Biller, author of the resolution, felt like there was a disconnect between the work the senate was doing and the work of the cabinet members, so the resolution would “get everyone on the same page.”

“We felt like we wanted to do this because the senate is directly responsible for voting these people into office, and they (cabinet members) do perform a valuable function for the senate that would be very tedious or otherwise impossible for the senate themselves to do,” Biller said.

The proposed amendment states “there is no mechanism in place to ensure that the senate is made aware of what projects cabinet members are working on."
