Office of Student Life releases new activity fee policies for student organizations

An email sent by the Office of Student Life Friday laid out new activity fee policies after the settled lawsuit between Students for Life and Ball State.

Students for Life said the university’s previous student activity fee policy upheld a “system that permits viewpoint discriminatory allocation of those funds,” according to court documents from the lawsuit.

The Office of Student Life said the Student Organization Fund is only available to recognized organizations and can be used for “activities, programs, resources, services, and events that enhance the cultural, recreational, social, and/or intellectual life of the university.”

These will be awarded to organizations in a “viewpoint-neutral manner.”

The deadline to change the policy was Sept. 7, according to court documents.

The Office of Student Life said completed budget forms can be accepted starting 5 p.m. Friday and the deadline is 5 p.m. Sept. 28. Organizations are encouraged look at the Student Organization Fund Allocation Policy and web page before submitting a budget form.
