There was trouble on the road as Ball State women’s tennis lost its second match of the season 6-1 at Cincinnati.

The day got off to a rough start — for the second match in a row, the Cardinals lost the doubles point. On court one, Rosalinda Calderon and Rebecca Herrington fell 6-1 against Bearcats pair Lauren Bellinger and Kelly Poggensee-Wei.

Audrey Berger and Peyton Gollhofer also lost 6-3 on court two against Caroline Morton and Anna Philip. There was more joyful news on court 3 though as Ball State pairing Toni Ormond and Carmen Blanco were 5-1 up in their contest against Harley Hutchinson and Ali Miller. But due to the other two matches finalising the overall doubles outcome, they decided to save their energy for the singles.

Four of the six singles matches went three full sets, but only Berger walked away with a win, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Gollhoffer, Blanco and Herrington experienced similar fates, each winning the first set before dropping the second and third.

Toni Ormond and Isabelle Dohanics each lost in straight sets.

The Cardinals are now 5-2 on the season, with both losses coming away from Muncie.

Ball State continues play next weekend with two matches at Northwest YMCA in Muncie. The Cardinals host the Evansville Purple Aces Saturday, Feb. 18 and take on IUPUI Sunday.
