UPDATE

ChirpFest is issuing a full refund to each ticket purchased for the spring show “one by one." Several students bought tickets for the event in hopes of seeing Chance the Rapper, said organizers Darius Norwood and Chris Cammack.

“We want to apologize to the people,” Cammack said on behalf of the group.

ChirpFest found out Dec. 26 that the company they paid to book Chance the Rapper was fraudulent.

“We reached out to a reputable company that we had done our research on and thought we were OK,” Cammack said. “We weren’t planning on posting anything until we got our marketing material approved by Chance’s management team."

The group had no intention of posting that Chance the Rapper would be at the event, but it was leaked by a former sponsor. Initially, the Eventbrite page was created in hopes of running a flash sale, giving Ball State students 30 percent off tickets.

“The reason why it was live and people could purchase tickets was because it was live on our page," Cammack said. "People weren’t supposed to be able to [buy tickets] or know about Chance coming to Ball State.”

ChirpFest also posted a series of tweets, apologizing and saying it will be refunding the money to those who purchased tickets for the event.

"We are very sorry for the inconvenience; everyone that has purchased tickets to our Spring 2017 Event will be refunded," the organization tweeted. "We take full responsibility for the mishaps and plan on handling this matter with the booking company that fraud us. We have not publicly advertised this event because we believe on having everything in order. We will keep you updated. Again, we are truly sorry for everyone that was hurt during this process. Your money will be refunded."

EARLIER

Several students bought ChirpFest tickets today after an Eventbrite posting went online saying Chance the Rapper would be performing at the spring event.

ChirpFest organizers said the posting was a "technical error," and they were not able to legally comment on the complicated situation until the new year.

However, Chance the Rapper tweeted, “I'm not playing chirpfest at ball state, don't buy fake tix. If you already bought fake tix, go demand your money back.”

Numerous students have posted on social media saying they have already bought tickets through Eventbrite. It is unknown at this time how many tickets were sold.

ChirpFest is a live electronic dance music festival that started at Ball State with their show on Sept. 16, 2015 in the Village.
