Rooster Teeth announced on October 21, through a press release, that their crowdfunded sci-fi comedy film LAZER TEAM will be available through the recently unveiled YouTube Red service in 2016 [link to our story about YouTube Red]. While there is still no release date for either the YouTube Red launch or the theatrical premier, this will allow fans from all over the world to enjoy the film.

Matt Hullum, Rooster Teeth co-founder and CEO, had this to say about the announcement:

"Rooster Teeth is thrilled to partner with YouTube to bring LAZER TEAM to this exciting new platform. We want to make sure that LAZER TEAM reaches the broadest audience possible, and that our fans worldwide have easy access to watch it anytime, anywhere. YouTube's powerful digital distribution channel ensures that this will happen."

With this, YouTube is taking its first steps to investing in new original shows and movies, hoping to be a more committed platform for content creators. Susanne Daniels, the Global Head of Original Programming for YouTube has said this about the partnership:
"From creating numerous, award-winning online Web series to hosting its own annual gaming and fan convention attended by thousands of fans, Rooster Teeth is a comedy powerhouse on YouTube. We can't wait to bring LAZER TEAM to their passionate community of fans on YouTube."

With LAZER TEAM currently holding the record for highest-funded Indiegogo movie after raising over $2.5 million for the films production, this is great news for all of those people who contributed from around the world, and may not have had the chance to see the film right away when it released here in America. Now it will be easier than ever for fans to access this movie when it comes out.

LAZER TEAM stars Rooster Teeth's own Bernie Burns, Gavin Free and Michael Jones,  as well as Colton Dunn, Allie DeBerry and Alan Ritchson. The story follows four unlikely heroes (Burns, Free, Jones and Dunn) who happen upon alien artifacts, which grant each of them a unique power. Together, they form the titular Lazer Team, and are tasked with  saving the world from an imminent alien invasion.

The movie was produced by Rooster Teeth and Fullscreen Films, directed by Matt Hullum, and written by Burnie Burns, Chris Demarais and Joshua Flanagan. There is still no confirmed release date, but it is planned to premier in 2016.
