Storms with heavy rains cause flooding in northwest Indiana

CROWN POINT, Ind. — Strong storms with heavy rains and strong winds have swept through much of Indiana, causing flooding in some areas.

The National Weather Service said flooding was reported in Cedar Lake, Valparaiso and other communities in northwest Indiana as up to 4 ½ inches of rain fell in some places Sunday. The Munster Times reports some roads were closed in Porter County due to flooding.

Flash flood warnings for parts of the area expired early Monday morning.

In central Indiana, WISH-TV said Indiana State Police had no reports of major storm damage that happened overnight as the storms moved farther south.

Storms continued to move through central and southern Indiana early Monday morning, but there were no active storm warnings.
